For lack of a better expression

Great teams with bad games, but otherwise proving why they're as good as they are

Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas, A&M, Bama

Notable "bad" games:

Ole Miss
@ Kentucky W 30-23
vs Arkansas W 41-35
vs Washington St W 24-21

Georgia
vs Florida W 24-20
@ Auburn 20-10

Texas
@Florida L 29-21
@ Kentucky W 16-13 (OT)
@ MSU W 45-38 (OT)

Texas A&M
vs Auburn W 16-10
@ Arkansas W 45-42

Alabama
@ FSU L 31-17 (Probably worth noting, first game of the season)
@South Carolina W 29-22

This is not a knock on any of these teams. Good teams find a way to win. Found it interesting to look at, and curious of outside thoughts. Close losses to top teams not included, because they don't fit the topic.

Excluding FSU, but to your point that was the first game of the season and coaches always say that’s one of the most dangerous games, it’s tough to play in the SEC week to week

First game always gets a pass, unless egregious

Teams take time to gel, just depends on how quickly it happens.

On the other side it’s always crazy to see the teams that lose 3-4 games by one score in a season.

Well, in 2009 Alabama had a few close calls… including the famous Rocky Block where we needed two blocked FGs to win… against a team that barely made a bowl.

Then at the end of the season give two teams their only losses by an average margin of 17 1/2 points.

1992 Alabama beat then #1 Miami by 21, but couldn’t score an offensive TD against LA Tech and only beat them 13-0 thanks to a punt return and two FGs.

It's always interesting to me how a team responds after one of these.

All the teams listed above have given themselves a chance. Still holds true though that a late bad loss is WAY worse than an early bad loss, even if comparable to another team's schedule with an early loss

We decided to hold out multiple starting DBs. We also had one healthy back. We also started a true freshman at LG that had a historically bad game. Billy also did a great job of getting after Texas on the ground two years in a row.

There are no dominant teams. You could do this with any team in the country really.

There haven't been any dominant teams in a few years now.

Yeah. True blowouts don’t happen near as often as they used to.

Accurate. I chose to stop with SEC teams, but you're absolutely right.
