Eh, I like the idea behind the list. No, there is no comparison between a Princeton and most big state schools. But you can give ranking a shot and factor in tuition, likelihood of aid, value of a diploma, etc.

This is money magazine, and a smart but not well off kid might have a choice between an Ivy and a few state schools.

Stanford or Cal? Tough call.

Princeton or a solid state school? May depend on the money.

I agree. I think that was the overall point.

You don't have to spend ridiculous money on an Ivy educations (hundreds of thousands) to get yourself on a solid career path.

Miss State, SC and Vandy would each trade about 100 ranking points for a title....

You won’t find a list with South Carolina very high because it isn’t a very good school, and this list is still shite.

The methodology is sound to measure value.

Georgia as a state has worked on increasing quality and maintaining affordability of higher education. We've fallen off a bit recently from the affordability perspective.

I've grown accustomed in the past two decades to seeing us rising on lists like these. That's why I'm disappointed.

Okay now I'm curious. Please tell me where you'd be at a disadvantage having a Princeton undergrad degree as opposed to some state school degree.

Not that I don't enjoy the results, but you can't post something like this without listing the evaluation criteria. It would be intellectually dishonest.

If a student wants to do petroleum engineering, Princeton is not the place to go. That holds true for A&M, Texas, and LSU.

That's just an example.

So they're saying it should really be LSU A&M?

First I have ever heard of that.

It's all about what you are going to make after you graduate. If you can get into Stanford or an Ivy League school, should absolutely do so for the prestige. However, you are going to owe quite a bit in student loans when you get out.

Getting into a school like A&M, or God forbid Texas, may provide a value alternative to an Ivy League school if you can get the grants and such. Good academic schools, at a MUCH cheaper cost. Also have to take into account the A&M Network - Aggies help out other Aggies.

Personally, I think A&M has become too much of a diploma mill the last few years, and should be falling DOWN these lists.
