Have it on a Saturday and people could plan huge parties. Bars and restaurants could have all day events.
They could turn Championship Saturday into another Super Bowl Sunday.
Yeah, I like the sound of that.

I like it. Gives me a reason to party on a Monday.

Really? So how come some of CFB biggest regular season games are moved to prime time on Saturday nights?
1) regular season college football is already played on a Saturday
2) apparently Sat nite draws more eyes that Sat afternoon when many are getting things done around the house, running errands, playing with the kids, etc
3) Mon nite likely draws more "average" sports fans or fans with "no dog in the hunt" as there are more people home on Mon nite than out on the town; avid college football fans like you or myself are gonna watch the NCG no matter what nite it is on

I agree. The fact it starts so late on the east coast also means most people in the eastern time zone will turn it off and go to bed by the 3rd quarter.
Also, I like to be able to go out with friends, have drinks and make it a fun night out for a big game. That ain't happening on a Monday.

Imagine the ratings on a Saturday night. What's the reason for Monday again?
1. If you play on Saturday you're competing head-to-head with the NFL. That's a non-starter
2. Casual sports fans will watch because it's on. There is no competition from the NFL or NBA (no nationally broadcast games tonight).
3. In this situation, TV viewers matter much more than attendance figures. While it might be tougher for the die-hard fan to go to the game, it's easier for the average fan to watch it.

That might be what you want, but the leagues want you sitting on your sofa watching ads. They want 100m people sitting at home watching by themselves more than they want a million bars showing it to 100 people at a time.

Huh?I thought people were "doing things" on Saturday night?Going out, etc.
Yea,I get the concept of having non-football folks watching on a "dead night" but I also think the TV execs
who control the game time are afraid to try anything new. They're pretty much following the NCAA basketball and Super Bowl models.

Yea because Monday Night Football is just a huge failure!

I used to work in TV. Sunday night is the most watched night of television followed by Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Wednesday. The drop off between those days and Friday and Saturday night is enormous.

I don't understand why the NFL doesn't play the playoff games Saturday at 1 and 4 with the CFB NCG at 8.
because the NFL does not have to cater to college football. They're not going to sacrifice a primetime slot during the playoffs (or ever)

Thing is I'm not going to be able to get nearly as drunk as I like to for college games. This is an issue.

More than likely but it also depends on who's playing in the game. Not sure how big the Northeast market will be for this game.Had this been a ND/Bama matchup it would be a completely different story.
Also, somewhat hard to compare ratings for sporting events compared to regular TV.There might be fewer sets
tuned in on a Saturday nt but not necessarily fewer eyes watching it.Doesn't take in to account the many bars and restaurants showing the game to multiple patrons.

actually ratings do take that into account

So they have an eyeball count on every bar in restaurant showing the game?In the country?
Amazing

The NFL matters more and they have Saturday and Sunday.

The first Monday nite after January 1. The payoff two weeks before on Sat. afternoon and nite.
