South Carolina is a team on the rise. They have had good teams but not great.

This year they will have the most talented team since 1984. The Black Magic team was a team that rode good team chemistry and positive momentum. The teams in the late 80s were far more talented

Their defense will be stout however the new Defensive Coordinator Lorenzo Ward is a wild card. Last year, Ellis Johnson was the DC and they were a top 5 defense. This year, L Ward wants to blitz more but they do not have the secondary to really accomplish that goal imo. I've always understood that blitzing helps the secondary, rather than be a burden to the secondary

Teams will not be able to run that much on thier front four (Taylor and Clowney are names you need to know - beast mode on the D Line) however I think that passing the ball will be the way to defeat SC. True

On offense, they have a good QB in Shaw, however his numbers from last year are hard to analysis. He started the last 4 regular season games and the bowl game and was efficent however there were many times he just threw the ball up in the air and Alson Jeffery would go up and get it (example - the end of the first half vs Nebraska in the bowl game). Shaw started the last 7 reg. season games and went 7-1 in those plus the bowl. Certain games early on Spurrier and Mangus didn't allow him to throw the ball much bc they weren't as confident in him...as the season progressed they opened Shaw up with passing and with each game he improved: had 200+ QB eff. ratings the final 3 games.....2 of which were ranked opponents

Jeffery is not there and they only have one receiver that has played significantly and his name is Ace Sanders. Ace is fast but has the droppies. He will fly past defenders and stretch the field but will he catch the ball consistantly? USC returns over 60% of their receiving yds and %60 of their receiving tds. ML returning is the best receiving RB in the SEC and will add that aspect as well

Marcus Lattimore is legit. He came off of knee surgery and will be their weapon of choice. He will probably carry the ball 30 times a game. He ran for over 200 yards against Georgia last year and should be able to continue that type of running. Lattimore will most likely carry fewer times this season than the past 2, with the depth we have. We lost ML for half the season and still finished 3rd in SEC in rushing offense, yds per carry, and rushing tds. We return all our RBs plus added Carson from injury and Davis from the incoming class, and our OL is expected to improve over '11. Lattimore rushed for 176 yds vs UGA., but it only felt like 200+ yds for UGA fans.

The only knock on Lattimore is that he seems to get hurt each year and is out for a period of time. His freshman year, he got injured at Kentucky and then again in the bowl game vs Florida State. Last year, it was a fluke injury on the knee against Miss State. It will be interesting to see if he is 100% this year.

The others backs are solid but nothing like Lattimore. Incoming freshman Mike Davis may get a shot if injuries mount up.

The oline is another concern. The center and two guards are SEC quality. Not sure about the tackles. Our OT depth includes 2 who started a combined 9 games last season plus 5* OT Shell (6-6, 330) who is a RS-fr. was expected to compete for starting time last year before off-season shoulder surgery shut him down. He will be a monster. The other 2 OT are young as well, but we went 7-2 with them in '11 and they will be improved now with all the experience

USC can go anywhere from 11-1 to 8-4

The stretch from Georgia to Arkansas will be the key.

Georgia
LSU
Florida
Tenn
Ark

If they lose to Georgia, I can see this team fall apart by losing to LSU, Florida and Ark. We shouldn't lose to UGA with all the much more major issues they have with their offense. UF's offense issues as well

If they beat Georgia, losing to LSU wont ruin the season.

Arkansas is the one game that they cannot lose if they want to make it to Atlanta. I agree

You know I got your back and all Sensei, but we need to pick our fights. And I'm just not really into Cock Fighting.

On the realz, I view South Carolina as our least winnable road game of any this year. With a pretty decently sized gap between them and Florida as our second most difficult road game, at least until Florida demonstrates it really has any semblance of an offense whatsoever. Defensively they are both pretty much awesome as hell, but the Cocks can score on you in a steady stream, all day or all night long, likely making it a long and hard visit for us. Wait, what?

They've won the ACC. Once.

To be fair I think we could've won 1 or 2 more in the '80s if we weren't independent then.

You act like we have questions all over the place. The only real question is OL depth. Our starting 5 will be just fine. Granted, depth is an issue and I'm not throwing it out the window. However, everywhere else on offense we'll be just fine.

You're counting on two true freshman to do most of the work to create a rushing attack, correct? I know they were highly touted coming out of high school but you never know how they can transition to college. For the record, I hope they have good seasons and don't go the Crow route. You just can't know if they'll be able to live up to the expectations.

I just don't know anything about the Cocks.

I think you know more about Cocks then you lead on...

With that if you can stop the run their offense usually folds. They do have a good defense but they seem to have problem with depth, like most.

Cocks would be my choice of winning the East if UGA did not draw the pussy schedule they somehow ended up with.

Easier said than done. We were only held to less than 200 yards rushing in 4 games and only one game we rushed less than 100, @ Arkansas. I think our passing game takes a step up this year with Shaw being more comfortable in the pocket.

We actually have very good depth along the line and at the linebacker position. Our secondary is getting thinner by the day it seems though with a transfer and injury already.

No. The starter will be a redshirt sophomore who was Crow's backup last year and, with as often as he crow was injured last year, got some minutes under his belt. The two freshmen are far more talented and absolutely will play and play a lot. They will help big time but it's not like our entire offense revolves around them, especially with as great as our passing game should be.

Oh yes I can see Clowney and Taylor slamming Murray into the turf as your freshman rb blows his blocking assignment. Good times.

Dear Lord no, he stinks. He's a senior, but shouldn't figure into the depth chart much. I'm talking about Ken Malcome.
