Here's a link to the website about the project: South Endzone Project

The site also has a brief history of Faurot Field and it's various projects over the years.

I really rather like the design. Right now there's no entrance into the stadium from the south. I've mentioned this on the other thread, but this project pretty much adds brand new locker rooms and offices for the football team. Right now all that is across the road to the west. The only locker rooms at the stadium are years old and way outdated.

As for attendance, mid 60's is a good number for Mizzou. Mizzou consistently drew that much until 2015. We will again soon, but anyway, it works for us. It also gets rid of crappy bleacher seats for more premium seating. The new bleachers that will be there have seat backs, so they should be pretty comfortable. They'll be similar to what's at the top on the east side.

Despite this reduction, there is plenty of places for attendance to actually grow if demand is there.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with all this. The project solves a lot of deficits we have.

I just think it looks bad aesthetically. It honestly looks less imposing and "impressive" than the current bleacher seating.

They could easily solve the issue by building multiple levels of suites and having video boards that wrap to the east/west stands.

Definitely worries me that all this money is being committed to projects that may not have a long lifespan

I don't think FB goes away, but I don't see the revenue being remotely near current levels

It's also just a rendering. Sterk said it was close, but there could and probably will be changes.

I liked the first rendering better

But this looks good as well. We desperately need new locker rooms, and a football dedicated facility.

As was mentioned above, the in stadium locker room is a bunch of wood benches (there is a nicer one in the MATC but it's not used on game days)

This facility should definitely help with recruiting and that's why it's being built.

1. Live attendance has been declining and become a major issue for many schools. This is largely due to a better product on TV

This is a red herring issue

Live attendance is declining because they focused on ever increasing short term revenue streams at the expense of reasonable, family priced long term event cost (ticket + parking + food + boodle + DONATIONS). They have basically killed off the next generation for bloated spending from current donors.

Live attendance would be fine if tickets were say 25 to 50 for a game against a decent opponent and required "donations" that doubled that cost. Throw in 2 dollar hot dogs, 1 dollar sodas, and 50 cent popcorn and watch the live interest grow. Add service with a smile and appropriate tempered food and the turnstiles would be fine.

Poor kids will still see this a a lottery ticket out even if the risk is high. Pimp cash keeps the drug dealing business in business and sports is a similar business model.

As for Mizzou shrinking their stadium, they are just following UK's lead which measn a move from the college masses to smaller venues aimed at pro pricing and venue experience. When AD's salaries jumped from 100K to 1 Million in a single hiring cycle you knew the bubble was being primed to bust the balloon. I would love of my pay to go up 5x to 10x in a single cycle but we do not have such abilities. I say if it works for Mizzou then good for them as long as they keep the petting zoo. Need to prime the pump for the next generation of fans and little kids all seem to like small furry animals.

I think we may see schools start focusing a lot more on fan experience and stadium atmosphere when renovating and upgrading, rather than adding size and capacity.

eventually, I think all schools will do this. imo, there is a point that the cost of attendance just isn't worth the experience. that point is different with different people but it's hitting more people every year. I love going to a live game but I do not love going to 7 or 8 of them. the hassle just takes the fun out of it.

Spot on man. Right now, there are still plenty of people that can afford it but the current crop of "rising potential donors" are exiting school into a vastly different world than 15-20 years ago. Cost of living increases have been steadily increasing, as have tuition costs at most universities (read: debt for most) all while salary growth for positions that would be attainable with just a bachelor's degree has been relatively flat. Fewer young families are able to purchase homes - at least in desirable metro areas where pay tends to be a little higher.

I know that when I look at UGA's home schedule this year it makes me wonder if I ever want to try and get season tix again. It's a slate of hot garbage... seriously. The upcoming seasons don't look drastically better. Granted every other year is a little better with Tennessee, Auburn, and Tech at home, but tough to get excited about next year's non-permanent out of conference slate of:
Austin Peay
UMass
Middle Tennessee State

We get a return trip from ND in 2019, but couple that with Murray State and Arkansas State...

I don't think I'm alone in looking at the schedule, finding the 1-3 games out of the season that are exciting (home or away), and just finding tickets. This year, planning for ND (coupling the travel with a work trip, which my wallet appreciates) and still working out others.

With the pressure to win at big time programs being so high these days, I understand *why* these shitty games are getting scheduled, but hopefully the ADs can read between the lines on why it's getting harder and harder to sell increases to ticket pricing, required "donations", concessions, etc...

Hell, what's odd to me is that it doesn't seem like they're even trying to approximate some demand based pricing into tickets. Let the cost for the "season tickets" stay the same, but actually run some data based calcs on what the game tiers should be... Rivalry game or big OOC/cross divisional opponent price it out at ~75-150+... garbage OOC 25-35 bucks and offer concession credit of $5-10 or something.

As to the OP, I totally agree that downsizing and offering a more premium experience can be a valid approach. Particularly if you're not a "traditional power" with a large fanbase in pretty close proximity. It's happening pretty much everywhere in professional sports already.

I had noticed it was in the renderings shown, so had a feeling it was a big of a gag, but nonetheless agree that it would be a poor decision to get rid of it.
