i have a friend who was an SEC linebacker in early 2000's, he claims that the gays on the team were always those you wouldn't expect, big black linemen

I've had friends play in the SEC, have friends who have coached in the SEC and all teams have had gays, many were known by the team. Unless they're some team cancer in other ways, it's usually kept under wraps by the team.

Bingo. A rumor I heard last year was that Jeff Scott was gay. Never found out if it was true or not.

They better not play on Tim Hardaway's team.

I'm sure every team has gay players. Most of them are closeted, and few will be good enough to ever play in the NFL. That's not because they're gay, but because only a small percentage of college players ever make it to the NFL.

In his case, it was going to be a story. He just decided to tell it himself rather than let some media back looking for ratings exploit him.

Why does someone who thinks Sams is a sinner, suddenly support Winston's rape of some drunk girl. Damnit at that nonsensical comments in this thread. I wish him the best but what he chose to do today was to admit to the public world that he is a sinner. And he apparently plans to continue living his life as a sinner. Again, I don't dislike him.. I do dislike those who have an agenda to try and FORCE all others to accept that homosexuality is not a sin. I'm sure he is a good man just as I and most others are good people but we are all sinners. The difference is that I don't try to convince people that my sins are really OK and shouldn't really count as an actual sin.

So, is Sam drafted by Seattle or San Francisco?

Not a popular opinion, but I don't think this guy is brave or courageous or a hero. I think he is smart. He made a business decision and now teams are going to fawn over him in the interest of appearing tolerant.

I'm sick of people acting like gay people are oppressed in this country. Have you seen television in the last 5 years? Have you been on the internet? Gay is a brand, now, and people are taking full advantage of it. Can we all stop acting like America isn't one of the most tolerant nations in the world? So gay people can't get married in every state? Move to one of the growing number of states that will marry you. Or wait a little while and it'll be legal in all of them. It's the trend. It's cool.

It's nothing compared to civil rights in the Jim Crowe era. Whenever I hear someone make the comparison, I know immediately that that person shouldn't be taken seriously, at least on this issue.

If he can find a way to get to the QB, he will have a job. Gay or not.

Just getting it out of the way. If he didn't want to be in the closet he shouldn't be.

Yeah, he was just jealous of how gays are treated and so he chose to be gay so he, too, could take advantage of the treatment of gays.

Apparently the story was on the verge of being broken by the media anyways so he wanted to be the one to come out so he could have some control over it
