Some news on the Liberty Bowl front: Mike Gundy says #okstate star RB Justice Hill and Larry Williams "will not participate in the bowl game to pursue future endeavors." #Mizzou

quote:

Hill, the star running back from Tulsa, will not participate in the Liberty Bowl to "pursue future endeavors," Mike Gundy announced on Monday. Larry Williams, OSU's starting right guard, will also sit out the bowl game.

Hill did not play in OSU's final two games of the regular season after leaving the Oklahoma game in the first half because of an injury.

He ran for 930 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games this season. Hill rushed for 3,539 yards over three seasons, placing him seventh all-time in Cowboy history.

By pursuing an NFL career, he will forgo his final season of eligibility.

quote:

Williams spent three years at Oklahoma State, coming back for an additional year of eligibility after injuries hindered his first two seasons. He started 20 games over three seasons on the offensive line, including all 12 this year.

that's between the team, coaches, and kid sitting out

why risk an injury in a "meaningless bowl game" as many of you say?

it's not like he's skipping a championship game or playoff

I do.

Your university paid you to get a degree at no cost. Your teammates and the coach that offered you - counted on you to perform every Saturday.

Your "thanks" is to not play in the bowl game and turn your back on your teammates, coaches, and fans.

If he ends up like McKenzie Milton he'll regret that. All to win a Liberty Bowl?

Why not skip half the season, then. Once your team is out of contention for a conference championship, shut it down.

OU and other colleges have been known to turn their back on athletes. Nothing wrong with a kid looking out for his best interests. Your college isn't going to take care of you when you fall on hard times.

I'm somewhere in the middle on this. I don't like the trend, but I understand why they do it and don't really blame them.

And it's worlds different for Lock than it is for this kid. Running backs are a lot more likely to take a career ending injury than are QB. He's also a lot more likely to seriously hurt his draft ranking with a minor injury than Lock is.

I usually side with the universities on things like paying players and whatnot, but I believe your point is invalid. The university has clearly gotten their money's worth out of him here.

Yall act like the player has all the power

if that was the case, the coach would tell him to hit the road

Getting hurt near the end of your season probably makes you reconsider.

You may not agree, but certainly you can understand?

For once (and maybe only once) I agree with Boomer on this.
