Southerners or Midwesterners?

I’ve been to the Ozarks, certainly seemed southern to me. There are also a bevy of great southerners that called Missouri home. But I understand that KC and STL are solidly midwestern.

They are a classic border state. A lot of Midwest, some Great Plains, and a dash of Southern.

St. Louis is a mix between cities like Cleveland and Jackson.

Culturally southern, economically northern/midwestern.

Is that a good thing? Cleveland’s economy was based entirely LeBron James. I can think of a dozen southern cities with better economies.

You mean, Missouri, birthplace and home to the only man to ever drop a nuclear weapon on America’s enemy.

Being from KC, I consider myself Midwestern with southern heritage. However, I’d say a majority of folks from the Ozarks, and 100% of people in the bootheel, consider themselves southern.

Note how you said “American” and not “‘Murkin.” Definitely not Southern.

I suppose you need to be reasonably educated to understand what I mean.

Live in Missouri for 6 years. Never once heard anyone from there say they lived in the South or were a Southerner. Never once heard them refer to their cookin' as Southern cookin', etc. I think it's pretty obvious. I would hear "I like the way you talk. You must be from the South."
