Did some of you just find this out? Because I don’t recall Missouri fans posting much during basketball season.

Missouri is a worthy SEC participant. I just discovered (to my shock) that Missouri was the SEC East champion in football its first two years in the conference. Talk about a stealth act!
The Tigers' work in college basketball this year is beyond amazing! It's unprecedented. Dennis Gates is a coach extraordinaire.

They were an excellent football team the year Auburn won it all with Cam. And last year, they played us tougher, by far, than anyone but Ohio State.
Don't sleep on Mizzou, imo, or you shall pay.

This is actually a very accurate statement. So many folks think they are a better fit than Mizzou, and are absolutely clueless about the history or geography of it all. Well said prof. Well said.
Thanks. I actually think culturally you fit right in with those of us in the Upper South.
Tennessee and Kentucky also have a mixed history and are culturally different from the Deep South due to not only our histories but also geography and the influence of those around us. There's an undeniable Southern influence but there's also more to each state than simply the Deep South and our opinions on slavery and the civil war varied tremendously depending upon where you were in the state. Even our post-war histories vary a great deal and sometimes depend upon what part of the state you happen to be talking about.

Not sure what you mean about mixed history applying to Tennessee. Tennessee has the 2nd most battlegrounds of the Civil War because this is where the Yankees met resistance. If you mean Tennessee’s table manners are better and more civilized than the Deep South, you are spot on.

Basically the mountains were different than the rest of these states.

Gates has been a pleasant surprise

I love pizza with ranch dressing, and have no ties with Missouri whatsoever

Missouri has more connection with the Southeast, culturally, than Univ. of Texas and Oklahoma. Texas A&M is marginally southeastern, due to its location within the state of Texas and historical ties of that region to the antebellum South.

Most of the people that bag on Missouri haven't even been to Missouri, and the ones who have been to Missouri went to St. Louis or Kansas City. If they went South of I-70 I am confident they'd view the state differently

East, Tennessee voted "no" twice. In fact, it was so resounding the Governor made sure troops were present on the second vote to suppress votes in the East and deliver Tennessee to the rebels. Afterwards, we tried multiple times to secede from the secession.
Our congressionals served in congress during the war unlike other confederate states. The first paper dedicated solely to abolition was founded in East, Tennessee. Post war radical Republicans from the mountain regions of Tennessee and Kentucky pushed through the first civil rights act and for heavier penalties against the rebels.
Lincoln prioritized the liberation of East, Tennessee and we threw the Unionists a party.
There were more battles here because - geography. We sent troops en masse to BOTH sides. Often crossing into Kentucky at the risk of being shot on site by rebels to sign up against the rebels and in support of the Union.
I could go on.

Yes, but that's like saying "we're the tallest midget". Your culture is still very "Midwestern". Austin is basically a California exclave at this point. They care more about Trannies and Wokeness than they do about football. And Oklahoma has a "High Plains" culture. They have more in common with Kansas and Nebraska than they do with the South, Southeast, or Southwest.

Except that "South of I-70" doesn't define all of Missouri. The vast majority of the state has a Midwest feel. You may be less Yankee than the Longhorns, but you're definitely not "Southern". I'm not sure why so many of you Mizzou fans even want that label.
I, for one, am glad A&M is not Southern. Texas has its own culture and we are damn proud of it (except for Austin...that's a California exclave)!

Screw the haters; they can kick rocks. I'm glad Mizzou got the hell out of the XII with A&M even though many wanted the B1G instead. St. Louis fits more with that conference anyway so I understood why.

And Missouri had the 3rd most battles plus continual guerilla war throughout the war.
