Pretty interesting article written by Nick Suss (beat writer for Ole Miss). I saw this on twitter and thought it was a good read. There has been a lot of NFL talent to come out of Mississippi. This list includes players that either played high school or college ball in Mississippi.

No Smoot for db's? Interesting.

Favre, Payton, and Rice may be the best QB, RB, WR combo any state can boast.

I think it's dumb to include players not born or raised in Mississippi on the list and call it the "Mississippi NFL all-time 53 man roster."

Lewis should be a starting linebacker. The Bear called him the best LB he’s ever seen. He was a 4-time All-American if I remember right and played in 5 Super Bowls. Dude was unreal.
Other than that great list besides adding Smoot over Slay.
Also feel like Marcus Dupree should be on there as a back-up RB.

Jackson State had some ridiculous talent in the 60's and 70's.

One of my buddies told me that until relatively recently (1990 maybe) that JSU had more NFL 1st Rd draft picks than OM, MSU, and USM.
I just sent him a link to the Clarion-Liar article, maybe he'll share that stat with me again.

no body realizes it but the state of mississippi has steadily produced elite talent at the college and pro level. players in highschool are consistently underrated because they are from mississippi instead of texas or another large state with a lot of talent. Ole Miss started their decline when they stopped recruiting in state kids as well. The JUCO system alone in mississippi is the best in the country

No. We started our decline when Vaught's boys got old enough to take over and ran the AD like a fricking country club.

that didnt help either. i am more so referring to recently.

Gotcha. I still can't say that's really accurate. We didn't exactly slow our in-state recruiting by choice. We had to start looking elsewhere because of Bama and LSU coming in and cherry-picking whoever they wanted. And while our Juco system is excellent, its difficult to build a team with them.
And you can't ignore how hard this NCAA investigation hit us....even before the sanctions were handed down.

Wow, impressive list. Walter Payton alone makes me want to salute the flag . Louisiana would be badass too because of all those old school Grambling and Southern legends.
