No one is upset over the business making a decision.
We're saying the pressure to make the decision was dumb.

This is literally a core tenant of the free market though. It’s also not new.
“Cancelling” things due to changing perception amongst the general consumer base has been going on since the beginning of this country. The only difference with these more recent situation seems to be the increased exposure of these decisions due to social media.

I agree, and people discussing the logic of those issues is nothing new either.

correct .but alot of the bumpkins in here think its ok to have black sneetches with big lips a nose ring jammed through their nostrils and wearing nothing but a dried out gourd covering their genitals ...not cool and very racist
Why is this racist? If you google african with nose ring, tell me what comes up? Also if white Americans start wearing it the left calls it cultural appropriation. Well which is it, you can't have it both ways ya fricking whiner.

Like what? Pull out a cue tip?

Free market “cancelling” is when people stop buying the product. Prices are the signals, not social media outrage.

People are not upset that Dr. Seuss pulled some of his shitty books, it is the fact that liberals complained and they felt the need to do it or face possible repercussions.
We went through this in the 80's with conservatives trying to shut down Hustler because it was offensive to them. Now the shoe is on the other foot and the folks who wanted free speech now do not.

All in the Family made fun of bigots and racists. Its odd that people misunderstand that these days.

eta that there are a few posters in this thread that are using the topic simply to argue. They don't really give a shite one way or the other who is or is not offended. They just don't have a life and if they can irritate some people, that's good enough for an evening's entertainment.

Uh, that’s not how any business worth a damn is run. If you’re waiting to lose consumers and demand, you’re losing.

When do you draw the line on behavior or materials that should be limited or stopped based on who it offends?

I can respect discussing the validity of the ‘offensiveness’ of the books, but let’s not use the word logic here.
It ultimately boils down to a discussion on the interpretation of a work of art - there is simply just no objectivity when it comes this topic.
My main contention with many points in this thread is the use of the term censorship. I never want to see censorship in this country, but I fear too many are turning that accusation into a boy-who-cried wolf situation. The phrase censorship itself is becoming political - with no reason as it’s all just typically over corporate pandering.

You got that right. I don't give a shite about Dr. Seuss, nor do I care that someone is offended by a book. We have freedom of speech and freedom of the press. If we are wanting to make changes to that I can give you a list of things that offend me and eventually we can do away with all the books.

Yeah, 15 drive by shootings and the neighbor was raped by a guy on meth but lets put our attention on Dr Seuss

I'm offended by these stupid fk'n LIONS NOT SHEEP apparel ads, and the people that produce that apparel don't really give a shite either. They're using the situation to sell apparel sort of the same way some posters are using this thread to simply argue. In other words there are a hell of a lot of hypocrites running around.
