I kinda thought both Kent State and Vandy were pretty good defenses. They did happen to tie for #19 in total defense this year.

Hum....not sure which is more stupid...suggesting that kent state is a good defense or that auburn could easily replace dyer.

I can see how you would have difficulty with viewing the #19 ranked total defense as a good defense. I did however say I thought they were pretty good.

I heard they were tied for 19th, which still made me question if anyone actually though kent state's defense was a good defense.

A few points...

1. losing Dyer will hurt. Yes we have talent behind him but you don't just lose the BCS Championship MVP and not skip a beat. Having said that, if we have to take a hit, the RB position is probably the one we can most afford, relatively speaking, to take it.

2. Those claiming that Dyer is middle of the road and all other SEC teams have better backs are making themselves look stupid. his numbers don't lie. He and Richardson were the only backs to average over 100 yards per game in the SEC and he had over 1,000 yards on the season. All this was done behind perhaps one of the worst offensive lines in SEC history.

3. If the talk of him being a prima donna, having a bad attitude, bad grades and failing multiple drug tests are true then, no matter how talented, he is a cancer to the program and has to go. I personally hope none of this is more than interwebs rumor and he comes back and finishes his career instead of throwing away what is more than likely a very bright future.

Any defense in the SEC is going to have bloated stats because the offenses in the SEC were so bad this year. This is not "what came first the chicken or the egg" debate. If your SEC schedule contained a majority of these teams, you are going to have good statics on defense unless you are terrible on defense yourself:

AU
Ole Miss
MSU
FL
TN
KY
VANDY
