#11 the week before the committee decided to do the right thing. Now they are playing for a national title.

How many other seasons did our Thought Leaders on the corrupt committee and at ESPN give us a sham Championship because they followed the hype?

The old BCS would have given us an Indiana vs Ohio State rematch for the championship. Barf.

The old 4-team playoff would have given us Indiana vs Texas Tech (LOL) and Ohio State vs Georgia semifinals.

The 12 team playoff still has its problems, but thank God we should actually get legit Championship games from now on.

Yea that really is pretty crazy to think about. They almost didn’t make it and will have a real shot to win the whole thing.

Pretty sure it was 8 vs 7 last year.

I’ve been guilty of this in the past as well, but too often the Ohio State’s and Alabama’s of the world have lost a head-scratcher of a game and the Thought Leaders explain it away as a fluke that should be overlooked…. Meanwhile Miami loses to SMU and Louisville by a combined 3 points in regulation, and everyone’s immediate reaction is to drop them 10 spots.

This has been the reality of our sport for 50+ years and it will probably continue, but at least now the teams that get propped up can be exposed and the teams that got overly-punished have a chance to overcome that.

A larger playoff than just 2 or 4 teams is probably a bigger threat to the blue bloods than NIL or the portal.

We have no idea whether all those SEC titles over the last 15 years would have held up in a fairer playoff system.

agree 100%. the only thing i'll add, which will likely never happen, is to get rod the a committee and somehow get the BEST 12/14/16 however many teams in, and not most DESERVING based on eye test 1 year, best loss 1 year, best win next year etc. BCS formula, top 12 teams go after it. would be a great playoff sytem.

I have to eat crow on this one.

But it is baffling how they lost the 2 games they did

Do we go by resume or by eye test when setting teams for the playoffs?

Yep.

It took the total demolition of the sport of college football as we know it to get to this moment, but the "have nots" are finally competing with the "haves."

Yes, the 12-team playoff has been nothing but good.

I disagree. Playoffs are more about being hot at the right moment and not rewarding teams for their consistency during the regular season. IF Oregon wins tonight we will have two teams who finished third in their conference competing for the national championship 10 days from now.

It's also a fairer playoff system. Make them earn it on the field, not in the press box.

Arkansas hails from the Southwest Conference, a league that was torn apart by endless cycles of recruiting violations, so you are one to talk.

I feel confident that Choklahoma probably wasn’t one of the two best teams all those times they were inserted into the Title Game/Playoff with Bob Stoops, only to get exposed.

The expanded playoff exposes you to the possibility of facing random bad matchups you never would have had to worry about before. In the bcs era there were probably random teams ranked #6 or something that could have been absolute kryptonite to one of the teams ranked #1 or #2 but they never had to face them. Now you have the possibility that a highly ranked team will face a bad matchup before they can even get to the championship game.

Oregon last year for example would have beat anyone in the field not named Ohio State but they got a bad draw and had to face the one team that was a bad matchup for them and ended up getting knocked out early where they would have been in the national championship game in the bcs era.

The current outcomes do not mean the rankings were not accurate. It means that when you have top-10 matchups with high stakes on the line, that even the better teams can lose.

Miami would actually be a prime example of EYE TEST working.

Having watched a few Miami regular season games, win and losses, they always "looked" as good or better than anyone.

Their losses and close games were very similar to the first 40 or so minutes against Ole Miss.

They probably "won" 4 of every 5 actual plays but just had a couple of huge penalties, a couple of failed red zone trips and a turnover to make the scoreboard even.

That’s not true. Had Miami lost to Florida State by two touchdowns (rather than beating them by 22 like they actually did), they probably would have missed the Playoff entirely. Other teams had the luxury of that type of loss being overlooked. And they’ve actually had that type of luxury for quite awhile.
