Didn't realize we were still in the bcs era. Are you still using outdated methodology in your life?

Aw, it's adorable watching you try so hard.

It is because judging raw yards allowed (rushing/passing) and points allowed has become antiquated. That is essentially what NCAA "total stats" does.

Yes, it is a data point. No, it doesn't really paint a full picture of the actual "total" defense.

Efficiency rankings do a much better job of evaluating the entire defensive unit while accounting for opponent strength and garbage time. It is a much better picture

Fair enough, but LSU is also 5th nationally in defensive efficiency.

I mentioned in my last post we have depth issues & they have the best OL we have faced, so I don’t think we shut them out…

But our defense is no paper tiger. They’re pretty good.

He's also a dumbass by bringing up Sagarin & SOS. Those two are meaningless in this discussion. A more intellectual poster would have taken those top 10 defensive rankings & broken them down by opponents offensive yardage & scoring rankings instead. You can't fix stupid.

LINK

Here's you go.

Those raw ncaa stats don't really tell us much. It's the advanced stats, that at this point in the season start to take shape, and give us a little better picture of where each team stands.

You can look at defense, offense and combined.

It defaults on combined.

Not in the least. Very strong defense across the board so far.

Yet what you posted actually backs up what I've been saying this whole time. According their (DF+) defensive rankings, LSU is number is #5 with an overall team ranking at #10. Thanks for proving my point.

Although, efficiency data really isn't a great predictor until about week 7 of CFB to get a better sample size and allow for all of the data and comparison points to mature.

The raw stats of rush yards allowed, pass yards allowed, and points allowed holds value, but even late into the season, it is not the best tool available. It makes for fun shite talk when your team is ahead in a category, but it isn't overly helpful at face value alone. The advanced data behind the raw data is more useful.

I found the BCS era comment earlier kind of ironic, as the raw stats yardage/points data was made relatively obsolete in the BCS era when computer modeling and advanced metrics started gaining notoriety. And, yes, Sagarin was a leader in that advancement rather you agree with his methodologies or not.

Hey man, we could have a beer sometime. Now this is a post that brings something to the discussion.

Maybe, but an alter who insists on bringing an air horn to a gunfight.

No one proved your point, and no one’s trying to. I'm not even sure what your point is.

That's a response to your request and the dumdum who asserts that raw ncaa stats mean something.

Only a dipshit thinks lsu has the number one defense and offense in the country.

The defense is elite, but not the best. In fact, it's only slightly better than Alabama's. And the offense? Well it's decent enough, but far from elite.

You wanted advanced stats. Rambone delivered.
