What is so off about his statement? He does have more experience playing in a pro style offense and being under center.
Exactly, But I guess Gus Malzahn's one read, shotgun, spread option offense is pro style now.

If Newton said the exact same thing that McElroy said you would be in a masturbatory frenzy about what a cocky bastard he was and that you can't wait until his head gets ripped off in the NFL.
bullshite... we're fricking used to it.

If Newton would have said the exact same thing It would have been false, sooooo.

I didn't say that Newton isn't full of himself and a cocky sob. I just love the hypocrisy of some posters that when someone from their school says something on the cocky side, it's ok, he's just a confident player.
Frankly, I have no problem with what McElroy said, and he is probably right to a degree.

This is a gigantic non-story. He's simply stating the incredibly fricking obvious and the Auburn posters in here are embarrassing themselves.

you are gonna criticize fricking McElroy and not Newton's shitty, show-boating, laptop stealing, flamboyant, cocky "i'm an icon" arse?
“When a man uses profanity to support an argument, it indicates that either the man or the argument is weak - probably both” I have used this quote before and it fits perfectly here..
IMHO, McElroy is very cocky, I stand by that... Now I also think Cam is very cocky, but that is for a different thread. Those are NOT mutual exclusive events.. It is possible that both are very cocky...

So the Cowboys are trading up in the 7th?

I don't know about GMac's arm strength, and a high score on the Wonderlic isn't a total indication of aptitude. That being said, GMac is probably right.

comments.
While these comments may come off as arrogant, it seems like he actually does know what he’s talking about. If he has any physical ability at all to play quarterback I think he will be a good player. I like the comparison someone made earlier to Chad Pennington.
I’d rather have a guy with brains than an athlete at the QB position. Unless you’re going to run the option…
That said you might get quicker production from the athlete just by his ability to make things happen. So a bad team, needing o-line help, would be better with a Newton type. A solid team may benefit from a McElroy type. Someone they can really groom and prepare to take over in the future. Much like Aaron Rodgers.
Brains beat brawn, just ask Payton and Tom.
Wow. That actually was how you do an interview. You don’t say your an icon and pimping your clothing line before you’ve taken a snap. Take notes newton….take notes

fwiw I don't care that Cam said something to the effect of what he accomplished in one year other people didn't in four years. Again its just stating the obvious for the most part.
The icon and entertainer thing was a bit douchy but he is an entertainer and why would he think he's not an icon when Auburn fans worshiped him in an incredibly creepy way.

I think most people are just blasting the OP for being a fricking moron for construing that statement as being cocky.

Of course McElroy is cocky. Show me a quarterback that isn't cocky and I'll show you a guy who rode the pine throughout his career.
With that said, Newton transcends cockiness. I didn't really have an issue with his statement that he is an "entertainer," but to proclaim himself an icon puts him in an entirely different stratosphere of cockiness from McElroy (and the vast majority of other NFL quarterbacks).

Yeah something along the lines of, "I'm more than just a football player, I'm an entertainer and an icon".
He also played college ball at the "University of Auburn".

He was asked a question and answered it honestly. Cam came out of nowhere with the whole "entertainer and icon" bullshite. He was right and it makes you uncomfortable.
