In all honest your'e being delusional if your'e comparing '11 UF, Penn Stae and AU to '12 LSU. The talent level is not even astronomically close.
The REAL question is does anybody think that the crowd noise and atmosphere in Tiger Stadium will affect AJ's play enough for him to make mistakes. Particularly the kind of mistakes that will change the outcome of the game.
If last year's game had been at LSU, maybe. AJ was still growing. This year, after 21 consecutive starts in some pretty big games, I don't think the SHOCK will be that significant.
If he makes a mistake, like throwing an interception, I would credit LSU's defense, not some kind of special lighting or some drunk guy in the 21st row.

I wanted to see if McCarron has actually beaten a quality opponent in a tough environment
Has Mettenberger?
Mett won at AU and A&M and lost at FL. He is 2-1, McCannon is 7-0 in the SEC and 1-0 in BCSCG.

He played an exceptional game in LSU's backyard on 1/9.

Per Saban: Fans don't play in the game. They don't block, tackle or run. It (the crowd) is only a distraction if you allow it. Truthfully Bama plays better on the road.
Keep convincing yourself of a win but the game may prove you wrong. Fans will NOT make one play. You can coach around noise plus you can stop the noise with 2 quick scores.
If Mett is picked off 2 times he will look like the last LSU QB benched in a game against Bama.

quote:Bama has actually played much better in away games this year. Barrett Jones said he liked the away games much more than home games, he welcomes the taunting and boo's our team gets, just makes them want to prove the are better. I think away games just make our players focus more on "doing their job."

All Saban is saying is that each player has a job to do whether they are playing at home or away. He's big on "mental toughness", and he prepares his players execute their task and ignore the outside destractions, i.e. crowd. This team knows how to take the emotion out of the crowd in a hostile environment. They've done it before, numerous times.

He's lost one game in two years as a starter and it was at home to LSU. Less than two months later he owned that same LSU team in their back yard so it's pretty easy ti decipher.
We are Americs's team so there are very few hostile environmentss

By the end of the game Saturday, the only QB the crowd will be hostile towards will be wearing Purple and Yellow..

Hostile environments have an effect:
at the start of the game
during close games
If bama pulls away early the crowd won't be an issue, barring a momentum shift.
A really loud, hostile crowd amplifies pressure that is already put there by the game and amplifies momentum. If the visiting team has all the momentum and the home team has none, then even a team that's really far behind will be largely unaffected by the crowd, even if it's really loud (2010 Iron Bowl)
However, if its a very tense situation where neither team can get momentum and UA starts to feel pressure in the 3rd and 4th quarter, a loud crowd will have some sort of impact. How much depends on how focused the team is.
Usually Saban teams at UA have historically been very disciplined and focused but it's been a year since they've been confronted with an equal; and they lost that game despite being at home. The BCSNCG was not two equal teams; LSU was not even in the same stratosphere as UA that night.
After all those WORDS WORDS WORDS I don't believe LSU has the horses to keep it close and give the crowd an opportunity to have an impact. The two teams that let AU play them the closest have been LSU and ULM.

shite, if we pull away their fans will leave. Ever watched one of their games, they leave in the third even when they are winning.

Crowd noise is overrated in my opinion. Sure...it can lead to false starts and some problems with hearing what plays are being called in an audible, but that doesn't really matter when you're facing a quality opponent.
Your previous center (Vlachos?) said it mattered in '10.

As other people have said, he has played in hostile enviroments and has done well at it. But to answer your question bluntly, no AJ has not played against a defense like LSU's in a place like Death Valley. The NC game had a decent ammount of Bama fans so you can't count that one. With that being said, I think he will do fairly well Saturday.

Vlachos is one of the most overrated players in FOOTBALL history.

Didn't fare too badly in New Orleans in early January this year.

And he's not on the team anymore. If anyone is going to get affected by the crowd, it's going to be a young or inexperienced guy like cooper or belue.
ETA: and of course Foster.

Not many since Bama has played one good team since the start of the 2011 season. Bama is the BOISE ST of the SEC. Undefeated and they play no one. After next year LSU will have played USC and FLORIDA and then UGA and Florida.
While Bama gets powerhouses KENTUCKY and MIZZ.
