Dantonio’s name predictably has appeared on some media lists of possible candidates for the South Carolina job, which is open with Steve Spurrier’s decision to resign.

Dantonio has called MSU a “destination job” in the past, with Texas reportedly interested late in MSU’s 2013 Rose Bowl season. And the 59-year-old Dantonio has said he doesn’t plan to still be coaching by age 70. But he didn’t say anything to kill speculation when asked to open today's news conference about the job.

“Yeah, coach Spurrier has had an outstanding career there,” Dantonio said. “It’s my alma mater, and we’re here to talk about Michigan.”

He's not leaving what he built at Michigan State to start all over at South Carolina.

After Dantonio and Harbaugh beat the pee out of OSU this year, there's going to be another coaching vacancy.

Exactly. He played ball for us. He loves USC, it's his true "home"....and some have reported he recently said he'd like to get back down to SC in the near future.

He gone.

Damn I'd love that. He'd bring a Bert style of football except it would work more than thrice in three years. CMD is legit.

I didn't realize that CMD's record over the past 3 years is 30-3. CIYE did that research...that is just incredible.

Yep. And there's been some talk for quite some time in Gator circles that Urbs was getting something on the side, but others say it was Shelly, and that is allegedly a large part of the reason he had to put on a show and they left town.

Of course. The same reason Les left and went to LSU

Yep, Dantonio to South Carolina and Saban back to Michigan State for unfinished business. He wants to show Harbaugh and Urbs what the rest of the SEC was feeling since he has been at Bama. Look out Big Ten!

Awesome HC, a little old though. If he wanted it though, it would be hard to find a candidate with a better resume'.

A. WHY would you leave Sparty for Columbia?

B. Do you want a 59 something year old coach to take over the program? You got maybe 3 years with him.

Um...59 is not that old for coaching dude. You can easily get 8-10 years out of Dantonio. Easily.

If I was MSU, I would do whatever is in my power to make sure this does not happen. Would be a home run for USCe if they pulled it off.
