You lean on that 2020 win because aside from that you can’t name the big wins Brian Kelly had at Notre Dame. They don’t stand out.

He had some very good ranked wins in 2012 as well.

10 Michigan State
18 Michigan
8 Oklahoma
17 Stanford

quote:

He lost every big postseason game he was in so the narrative has to become “the regular season mattered then!”

2012 Bama, 2018 Clemson, and 2020 Bama went a combined 41-1, no one beat these teams except Johnny Football.

Why does Kelly get crapped on for losing to some teams that everyone else also lost to?

Meanwhile, we're crowning Freeman because he's faced:

1 loss Indiana, who beat one opponent with a winning record all year

2 loss Georgia with their backup quarterback

2 loss Penn State

Notre Dame has never had a problem getting to "big games" vs elite teams, they just can't matchup with elite teams.

Not really, at that point Freeman will have did more than Kelly did there

They were top 5 when he took over, Kelly brought them back from the Charlie Weis years. How brain dead are you?

3-9, 7-6, and 6-6 were Weis’s final seasons with an average recruiting rank In the top 3. Under Kelly they were In the teens and then top 5, and under Freeman they’re In the Same position In the Teens. But freeman has the benefit of the portal and NIL.

You’re trolling but you’re also a damn fool

If ND faces a single team with a competent QB their defensive woes will be front and center.
Guns was more than competent.

ND's DL vs. UGA's OL, special teams, and play calling is what resulted in Notre Dame winning the Sugar.

I'd say the loss of the starting punter had more of an effect than the loss of Beck, and field position/punting became important after the left side of the UGA OL just said "awe frick blocking" after about a quarter.

BK beat #1 Clemson in 2020 without their starting quarterback as well.

In the regular season. But then in the ACC championship rematch with Clemson Kelly and Notre Dame lost 34-10. They still made the playoffs. But in their next game they lost to Alabama 31-14.

2020 was a perfect synopsis of Brian Kelly’s entire career. Win a regular season game against the #1 team in the country but then absolutely shite the bed in two postseason games.

It's interesting to me how the narrative with Ryan Day is that he was "born on 3rd base" due to what he inherited, yet nobody says that about Marcus Freeman. Fascinating.......

How many Kelly recruits are currently on ND's roster?

ND is a historically successful team. Kelly did NOTHING to add to that. Kelly was the one born on third base and could not achieve the success Freeman already has.

So does Kelly at LSU. But he can't sniff the success that Saban, Miles and O had.

The common theme is kelly, and really, no one likes him.

But Freeman didn’t have to rebuild ND. It was already established and filled. LSU was left bare by Orgeron Ang disaster coaching post 2019. Kelly arrived with the house almost bare. 36 players on roster at his arrival and won the West his 1st year. Then he let House get lazy and it cost him a likely NC last year. A mediocre defense and lsu wins the NC.

There is a huge difference and you’re only lying to yourself if you don’t see it

Muh 39 schollies...

The fricker even said to judge him after Year 3 knowing that. Well Year 3 resulted in 2 losses to Year 1 coaches, a loss to a guy too chicken shite to coach in the SEC, and a loss to Sunbelt Billy.

Do you not remember when LSU played defense and ran the ball between the tackles? The defense is baby shite soft, the OL looks like it has never hit a sled or blocked on boards, and I can't think of a down hill runner in the backfield, not that it would matter with that OL.

And unfortunately for LSU fans, the ceiling I see for LSU next year is LSU getting into the CFP then getting ran off the fricking field in a 1st Round game. That won't shake the "Big Game Brian" label and a CFP beat down for the entire nation to see will make for a long off season.

Yall are stuck with him until he kills another kid.

Kind of trashy to use a kid's death as a means to troll on a message board IMO

Heading into the 25 season LSU is a top 5 team next year with the top QB In the Country more than likely

So by all means judge him by year 4. We replaced all 3 coordinators this past season and the entire defensive staff. Saw them go from worst defense to middle of the road. Middle of the road In 23 and LSU is defending Nc’s.

I don't know if they'll be THAT good, but they should at least make the playoff. Anything less would be an abject failure.

Need to keep it to two regular season losses.

Even if we accept that, LSU was #5 heading into 23 and #13 heading into the 24 season.
