Coach Saban didn't use them as a fluffer like he did LSU.
LSU made Saban, if he goes to the NFL from Mich State, he's the DC for the Patriots right now.
Your welcome.

So, to all the Bama people, just remember that not ALL LSU fans hate you, your school, and Saban just because he's now coaching there.
I feel the same way, I just have to make general statements to put some of your fellow fans in line from time to time. Just realize they really arent aimed at all of you. Just the idiot I happen to be talking to at the time.

Yeah, LSU TOTALLY made Saban what he is with their rampant success before he arrived.
ETA: And before you start linking Alabama's record before Saban arrived, I know we sucked before we got ehre. But I'm not making the claim that we made him either.
ETAA: Lunch time, nice talking to ya.

Welll.....
I think the man makes himself.
Mostly because I don'r believe you can have your cake and eat it too.
By that, I mean if LSU made Saban, then is LSU also responsible for Curly Hallman? Did Bama make Shula?
Hell, if anything, I think the coach is more able to make the school, than the school making the coach.
Bowden - FSU
Paterno - PSU
Bear - Bama
Wooden - UCLA
Bertman - LSU

I'm a new member here but I have been reading this board for a few months. I suppose you can tell by my name that I am a Bama fan.
I live in the middle Georgia area but I was born and raised in Bama. I attended the U of A back in the 70's, my wife attended,by dad , my older bsister, my older brother, my younger sister, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I have bled crimson ever since I can remember.
With Saban, what you see is what you get and that's basically all there is to it. He is doing what he was hired to do, to bring Bama back to NC contention; he has certainly done that.
No doubt a lot of people don't like him, most of those are fans of other teams. To those fans, all I've got to say is "deal with it".
I make no bones about it, I'm a Bama homer and I'll defend my school to my last drop of crimson blood.

Bingo. The stars absolutely aligned perfectly for Alabama back in December of 2006. Also, If Rich Rodriguez doesn't do a 180, Alabama's football program falls through the cracks into the abyss, for a long long time and we are talking about LSU and Arkansas instead.

If we're talking about previous staffs then it's a good thing he didn't follow the lead of Gene Stallings.

Marcell Dareus: He got to loosen up. The control he has in college, you will never get that in the NFL. You have to be more relaxed about it
What did Saban in at Miami was his lack of patience, not his evaluation skills. Saban is one of the best, if not the best, evaluator of talent in football.
Saban is a better coach at Alabama today than he was at LSU. He learned a lot during his Miami stint, which has served him well at Bama.
Here is info on the whole Miami Dolphins - New Orleans Saints Drew Brees issue that most don't know:
It wasn't Saban's lack of evaluating talent as his downfall with the Dolphins, but his total and complete lack of patience.
As everyone knows, Brees had his surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham and did all his rehab there too, so Dr. Andrews knew Brees condition better than anyone.
Saban sat down with Dr. Andrews at the NFL combine in Indianapolis in Feb, 2006 and discussed Brees condition with him for over 2 hours. Dr. Andrews said that Brees' shoulder would be completely fine in time, but may not be ready by the exhibition season and that Brees may be limited to only short passes early in the season. Saban was completely put off by that news and said that the Dolphins couldn't spend over $10 million for a QB that may not be able to throw in training camp and could only throw short passes in the exhibition season, and possibly early in the year. Saban had no patience for that.
So.........Saban consulted with 4 other physicians including NY Ortho Surgeon, Dr. Russ Warren who was the NY Giants. When Brees visited the Dolphins once free agency started, he couldn't raise his arm above his shoulder. Culpepper, however, was way ahead of Brees in terms of medical health. Saban didn't have the patience to wait on Brees, so he signed Culpepper.
Meanwhile, Sean Payton, had total and complete faith in Brees and Dr. Andrew's evaluation. Payton continued to recruit Brees and instead of going to other surgeons to get their opinions, trusted Dr. Andrews and his evaluation.
Tom Condon was representing Brees and after he was told by Saban that they were going in a different direction, bluffed the Saints and told them that the Dolphins were still courting Brees seriously. The Saints offered a 6 year $60 million contract with $10 million guaranteed.
The rest is history.

Hard to disagree with that, but I'll add that his record versus LSU and Miles will be .500, unless of course Alabama gets rematches every year they lose.
