"Each county's color reflects the team with the most Twitter followers." Reddit Source.

Obviously not very scientific, but kind of a fun idea. I see you Arkansas, encroaching on our southern borders.

Shelby County is only blue because of Twitter for ObamaPhone.

I'd like to see how they did this. There is no way some of the counties they counted for Baylor or TCU or tech are anything but burnt orange.

Wow. Didn’t know Mississippi State would be that much more widespread than Ole Miss.

Kind of makes sense that the ag school dominates the rural parts of the state. Same thing with Kansas State and Kansas.

That surprised me too. Also, SEMO? If anything other than Mizzou, I expected to see Arkansas or Ole Miss down there. Sure seems like a lot of kids in that part of the state head to the Mississippi schools.

Shelby county has more TN, Bama, OM, Arkansas and State fans than the Memphis Tigers.

So Oregon has the largest area. I am assuming that is Oregons yellow in Alaska.

Nope, it's the Vladivostok Institute of Technology.

It’s a fun map; but it’s a hot mess in terms of methodology.

I clicked through to the creator’s citations. Map colors were determined by a team’s number of Twitter followers. In many cases n=1 person.

That large swath of yellow in upper Alaska, for example? It was categorized by three Twitter users following Oregon; one following Alabama; and one following Clemson.

It’s an impressive effort, though!

I agree. I went to HS in the boot heel and a majority of my classmates went to one of the Mississippi schools.

It’s based on Twitter followers, as stated in the first post. Reading is hard. Not my map and obviously the methodology is imperfect. Just thought it was interesting and y’all might enjoy it, for whatever it’s worth.

SHelby County is weird. There are large numbers of Tennessee, Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas, State, and even Alabama fans.

LSU is the most popular team in Hancock County, Mississippi, and possibly Harrison County as well.

Auburn is the most popular team in Montgomery County, Alabama.

Regardless of the issues with the map, there are probably more State fans in Mississippi than Ole Miss fans.
