Mack Brown said Wednesday he will "never get over" the Longhorns' 37-21 loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship game.

Brown, who was speaking at his annual press conference for national signing day, sometimes exaggerates his emotions for effect when talking about the past. But it was easy to see that he was serious about this one.

There was hurt in his eyes and pain in his voice.

"I don't think I'll ever recover from it," Brown said in his first comment about the loss since Jan 7. "I don't think I've ever been that hurt from a football game, to see the look on those kids' faces.

"I thought we were in great shape. I thought we had a chance to win. They were prepared. They were in shape. They were excited about the game. The crowd was unbelievable. At halftime, I was so proud of those kids."

The hardest part for Brown was — even after Colt McCoy's injury and falling behind 24-6 in the first half — that he still thought they were going to win.

"What got me the worst was with six minutes left, I thought we would stop them, get the ball and win the game, 'cause we've done that so many times," Brown said. "I was disappointed they (Alabama) drove down the field. With 3:50 left, I still thought we were going to win. Then to have the turnover at the end...It was so hard."

Texas almost pulled the game out without McCoy. Says volumes about the Texas program. If McCoy had played the entire game Texas would have won the game. The Bama mistakes in the first Quarter were negated by McCoy getting injured.

Brown is a class guy and a good coach. Calling him a pussy is unwarranted.

Really? I guess it's impossible to think Bama may have taken it's foot off the gas a little after McCoy got hurt? You're probrably thinking that if the backup freshman quarterback threw for as many yards as he did then surely McCoy would have ate them up huh? That couldn't have been because Bama stopped defending the pass as much because they had a young inexperienced quarterback huh? Nah...never that...McCoy would have won it definately. The fact that Bama had two 100 yard rushers and probrably would have kept McCoy off the field anyway doesn't even matter. All World McCoy would have done it huh? Texas's luck was never gonna run out huh...probrably would have recovered 3 more onside kicks. If McCoy hadn't have gotten hurt Bama would have never settled down and controlled the game huh?

Pathetic!! I don't know who would have won he game had McCoy had stayed in but I honestly think Bama would have won regardless. The inevitable happened...Colt has a habit of taking off and running when the field is covered so he was gonna get his a$$ lit regardless whether it was on the 1st series or 10th series. If losing 1 person on your team makes that much of a difference, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO BE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!

I'm so sick of hearing this crap. YOU DON'T KNOW THAT! Saban's gameplan completely changed when he went down. It's just like LSU fans thinking that if the Int counted in the Bama game that Jarret Lee was somehow going to miraculously figure out how to move the ball down the field on Bama's defense.

I can understand him. As a fan, I feel cheated. It is like the game was never even played after the McCoy injury. We will never know who really had the better team. Personally, I think UT would have won by double digits. That is not smack talk or flaming, but just what I think would have happened.

What exactly was Saban's game plan that was working so well? It was about to be 14 to 0, and Saban's gameplan was about to be in big trouble is what I think. You just never know, and that is what sucks about that game. We were robbed of seeing who was better when McCoy went down.

Saban was more conservative on offense the rest of the game b/c it had appeared that Texas could not move the ball at all on offense with the other QB in. When they started getting momentum, Bama clamped down and did what they had to do to win. It does suck that McCoy was knocked out, but this Texas defense that was supposed to be good was gashed.

Not trying to flame the original poster but this isn't really news and it doesn't reflect poorly on Mack either.

Mack said about 5,000 times before playing USC for the NC that if he lost, he would die miserable for it.

Then he said much of the same in the weeks leading up to the Bama game. I live in Austin and I can't tell you how many radio and tv interviews he gave where he said (paraphrased) "When you make it this far, losing is something you will never overcome".

It's not BAMA that he can't get over, it's being so close and failing. If your coach isn't hurt to the core over losing, well, you'll probably be doing a lot of it.

But Jim Tressel takes it much easier it appears. I guess some people get used to failing at the last moment.

There is nothing wrong with a coach feeling like that. Nothing at all. If I were in his position I would probably feel the same way.
