Jones might be a bust and may not deserve to be a 1st round pick but comparing him to McCarron is ridiculous. As solid a college qb as McCarron was he never sniffed the 1st or even 2nd round in any mock draft.

The absolute lowest I've seen Jones mocked in any mock draft was the 45th overall pick to Patriots. He's been mocked as high as 3rd overall (highly unlikely imo) and as low as 28th to the Saints in literally every mock draft. Bringing up McCarron is an absurd comparison.

I don’t care where he’s mocked. That’s his talent level.

shite no wonder Bama has so many players in the NFL. All the front offices are apparently full of Bama fans according to KellerChrystFan.

2020 Bama would’ve gotten Spencer Pennington drafted.

Check out Sabans track record for quarterbacks when they get to the NFL. I wouldn’t call it stellar.

You can say that about any coach. If you end up with a QB that went on to a lot of professional success, that’s about as rare as it gets.

Simple fact is that the NFL is a crap shoot, period.

Fields will be a bust

He doesn't handle pressure well. All qbr's drop under pressure. The other 4 top qb's dropped some, but Fields under pressure dropped into the 50's. It was less than half of the others. He struggled against Saban's blitz packages, similar shemes the nfl uses. If he can't learn to recognize when and where the blitzes are coming, he will fail in the NFL.

Meh, he did fine. These things are so overrated. Like Jimmy Johnson said, I don't do the combine, I watch game tape. Mac is a gamer with a tremendous instinct for every situation.
He was the best "big game" qb for Bama since aj. They both had completed control of the playbook, control of the offense and didn't make mistakes. He'll be in the league a good while.

"2020 Bama would’ve gotten Spencer Pennington drafted."

U can be at least a little objective. Mac was sensational this season. Highest qbr in the history of the metric.

Exactly - if your team is good enough to make Spencer Pennington look like a draftable NFL QB, then an AJ Mccaron type talent can have the season Jones had this year.

And you came to that conclusion after his ground breaking season ?

I think Mac would do well under three particular coaches.

Shanahan, Payton or Brady (OC for the Panthers). If any of those three get him in the draft, I think he has success. Jim Plunkett was an absolute bust until he went to the Raiders. Style of offense matters.

1999, Tim Couch, McNabb and Akili Smith were the first three players drafted. Only McNabb had success. 83 is the standard of which all qb drafts are measured.

There is getting to be one obvious conclusion about Mac Jones and the upcoming NFL draft, the NFL GMs think a lot more of his football savvy and acumen than the media. Mac will just have to learn to live with the difference all the way to the bank.

I would lose my mind if Mac was drafted by my Saints.

If Kyle Shanahan takes him at 3 he deserves every bit of flack and bad luck that comes his way.

Taking Mac at 3 is a fireable offense.

Tim Couch

Couch was the last QB until Baker to get the Browns to the playoffs. He had a good career going, then he hurt his shoulder and was never the same.

Calling him a bust is disingenuous.

You’ve had some real hot takes in this thread. His ceiling is Andy dalton but he’s not worth more than a mid round pick and will be holding a clipboard? Are you dumb?

Eta 5-7 round pick* lol. I could see him holding a clipboard long term but anybody with that ceiling is being drafted before then. And he’ll at least get a shot as a starter.

I would love to see him in the Falcons uniform, but I’m not sure #4 pick is right for him. I think he goes between 8-15. Would love to see the Falcons trade down to get him. I would absolutely snatch him up at #8.
