We would be JUST barely below Tennessee.
Tennessee with 13 SEC titles and 4 NC
We would then have 11 SEC titles and 4 NC
Granted CFBdatawarehouse already has us slightly above Tennessee all-time right now...but they also give us a NC in 1908 for going undefeated and apparently we've played a much tougher schedule all-time.

If LSU wins the ship this year, it could be argued.
If it has to be "argued" then you have not attained the status.

Tennessee has 2 MNCs, 1951 & 1998.
If we counted them like UT, LSU could claim 7:
1908 - National Championship Foundation
1935 - Williamson
1936 - Williamson
1958 - Consensus
1962 - Berryman
2003 - BCS
2007 - Consensus

IMO we should claim 7. If the other SEC schools do it, why shouldn't we?

Not sure how you can leave off 1938 for them, 11-0 and allowed 16 points all year.

I was also wondering what else does LSU need to do to pass UT.
Assuming we win the big game this year, keep winning at ~75 to 78% clip over the next 4 to 6 years and 1 more BCS - we're probably 2b to Tennessee's 2a.
The head-to-head record, total wins and win percentage will likely keep them in the discussion, even if they don't recover (need a couple of more coaching changes to be competitive again), and even if we edge past them slightly in measurables.

It's amaning the amount of ground LSU has made up the last 10 years. Moving past UGA and edging closer to Tennessee.

The AP awarded it to the 11-0 Sugar Bowl champs, TCU.

Given the recruiting disadvantage they have at Tennessee that can't be overcome by television anymore, I don't see Tennessee being that great again in my lifetime. I'm not trying to flame Vol fans, that's my honest opinion.

Historically LSU has been ahead of UGA.
Only in the 90's (1994) did UGA pass LSU in o/a win%. But if LSU wins out, and UGA goes 1-1 to finish, LSU will pass UGA in o/a win%.
LSU has always led the head-to-head with UGA.

Which is awesome and has been incredible.
As of right now I would say the rankings(historicaly) would be
1.Bama
2. UT
3a. UGA
3b. LSU
3c. Auburn
with UF close behind because of their championships
LSU with a championship this year will move ahead of UGA but still be 3a, do it again next year and LSU is 2b with UT

And those are just SEC champs.
If we're talking ALL-time, you'd have to add LSU's 2 SIAA and 1 Southern titles, and by the way, we'll go ahead and claim that '84 title the Gators vacated. After all, LSU tied UF @ UF and represented the SEC in the Sugar as having the next best conference record.
That ties LSU with UGA at 14 conference titles apiece.

Just be careful that LSU doesn't turn out to be the new Miami. Miami ruled CFB in the 80's and won a shite ton of games. They came out of no where with no real tradition at all. Now, almost non-existent.

I would guess third behind Alabama and Tennessee?
I think we'd be at least to the point of a debate with Tennessee. I know they have more SEC championships and a better record historically, but we would have more national championships and recent success is (or should be) more heavily weighted than distant past success.

UT only has 2 SEC TITLES since I was born in 1979. I could be wrong
It's more than that.
They won it in 1985, 1989 (shared with Bama and Auburn), 1990 (UF finished ahead but ineligible), 1997 and 1998.
