Why would he not demand it? That would be the least it should take. That’s why it’s in the contract. Putting a fricken on em would be demanding more in order to agree to it early in the season so they get a head start on the search.

Leverage for what?
To make sure he gets paid his full buyout. It's weird to keep a coach on knowing from what I've seen posted on here that the players and coaches don't want him around.
Wouldn't it better for both parties to part ways immediately? Don't want no Les Miles type shenanigans.

I mean there's no good interim candidate.
Plus it lets O bow out as gracefully as possible.

Come back when LSU negotiates a lower buyout
Exactly what leverage does LSU have?
"ED, we are letting you go but we don't want to pay your full buyout. Be a peach and give us back money we owe you. Thanks".

I think a lot of it had to do with what happened with Miles.
I always wondered why he let them off the hook and settled for far less than the $9 million buyout they owed him. Its pretty clear now that both sides threatened to go scorched earth on what was going on behind the scenes, so a “negotiated settlement” was the best way to keep it neatly swept under the rug.
Of course Red Stick being the cesspool of corruption it is, it all came out eventually anyway. My guess is that the current gang of idiots in charge are hoping that paying off the Rosy Finch Boyz in full will bury it deeper this time.
We’ll see.

As usual Freep nails it

The rant says this about almost everyone. Fact of the matter is no one in the SEC is broke with how much we all get now from these TV deals

Hell I imagine Coach O probably has a bit leverage over a few people also. This will be fascinating to see play out
It would have only been fascinating if he made LSU fire him. With the settlement, that changes everything in that regard

I am not buying this. I want to hear this officially.

That didn’t happen until he took the Kansas job. It actually worked out well for everyone which is why it was retroactively lowered

But Daniel, you told us LSU didn’t have that kind of money. Jokes on you. Again.
