When LSU missed on Tom Herman, it's like the Tigers punted on third and goal instead of going for it.

It's not like there are 90 top tier coaches out there.
There are 4 (YES 4!) current coaches with National championships.
After we missed out on Herman and Jimbo, the remaining candidates don't really outweigh O's recruiting and his ability to keep the former class together.

And yes, he is a placeholder in the sense that any coach will be replaced if/when they underperform or another (better) candidate becomes available. Until then it's classified as doing what you can with what you have. Which is the direct opposite of surrendering.

As such, I dub this fake news.

That writer is not wrong. We hired the defensive line coach, a guy who Ole Miss fired with reason, and who USC declined to hire full time as head coach. We hired a guy whose teams put up a combined 10 points in losses to Alabama and an undermanned Florida team.

Here's hoping the AD is cleaned out when the football coach gets the boot in a couple of years.

It sure does. Florida and Bama - the only two teams with a pulse that he coached against last year - both beat his team AT home.

almost won the west

no. no he didn't.

He's here to win it all

every coach & fan base in the SEC says that and, hopefully, they all believe it

it doesn't look like anyone will stop him.

it absolutely looks like teams will line up to stop him. last year Florida & Bama did it. This year I'd expect AU, FL, Bama, and one other team to do it.

So, four championship coaches and the rest of them are more or less equal because they haven't won a championship?

As Clemson proved in January, you just gotta go for it.

You mean the same Clemson that has a Dabo Swinney. Isn't he the same coach that is considered a CEO type coach, that allows his Coordinators to call the plays? You mean the guy known better as a recruiter than an actual coach on the field?

Now, what coach in the SEC does that sound like?

Louisville didn't have a pulse? They were ranked higher than Florida until LSU beat the crap out of them. or is this one of those posts where you discredit games in an effort to make a point?

The same Dabo Swinney who is 89-28 (.761) as a HC. That guy with that record sounds nothing like the guy who is 22-29 (.431) as a HC.

Ed O has a chance to prove he's learned from his mistakes in the past, but until he does, I wouldn't compare him to the guy who is 49-7 over the last 4 years.

They certainly had a pulse, but they were pretty average the last 1/3 of the season.

W 32-25 @ Virginia (2-10)
W 52-7 @ Boston College (7-6)
W 44-12 vs Wake Forest (7-6)
L 36-10 @ Houston (9-4)
L 41-38 vs Kentucky (7-6)

A beat down loss to Houston, a loss to Kentucky, a near loss to Virginia and 2 beat downs of 7 win teams.

It was still a solid, physical whipping, but they were far from the team that hammered FSU and almost won at Clemson by that point.

Oh I don;t disagree with that, I just hate when people make arguments like that. I really think had LSU beaten Florida, that poster wouldn't have viewed Florida as a team with a pulse either. They would have just been an unranked team at the end of the season with 5 losses.
