Black folk have about zero tolerance for gay people.

It's not what the SECR thinks that Blue should give a shite about, it's what the media thinks. This is the kind of comment that could cause a media shitstorm and result in public apologies from University representatives.

Exactly. At the very least, Blue is going to learn a valuable lesson on how to speak to the media.

Exactly. If ESPN picks this up, watch out.

Well let's break down what he said.
quote:

“Football is supposed to be this violent sport — this aggressive sport that grown men are supposed to play,”

True
quote:

“Ain’t no little boys out here between them lines.

True
quote:

“So if you gay, we look at you as a sissy. You know? Like, how you going to say you can do what we do and you want a man?”

He used the term 'we' so the question is, in a football locker room, is this the view, in general? I'm not saying if this is morally right or not, but simply asking if this is the general view. Any ex college/pro players out there willing to answer this?

They will, you can etch that in concrete.

I actually picked up on the same thing when he said 'we.' But, it's probably impossible to qualify if this is a general view in locker rooms across America or not. My guess would be that every locker room is different.

That's what I mean. Is this the general view in the LSU locker room? any college/NFL locker room? I have no idea.

JMO - most of us have a tendency to assume people agree with our point of view. IMO Blue is mostly expressing an opinion on his own behalf... but I think a lot of other guys who think the same thing are probably just too smart to say that to a reporter

The lack of publicly gay players in college or pro football indicates there's not a lot of acceptance of being gay on a football team.

That or there simply aren't many gay players in those sports. I was born in 60 and the big social change began shortly thereafter, but that takes a lot of time to set in. In the 70's and 80's that information (OP subject) was best kept to yourself, no doubt. But nowadays it's a lot different, and I definitely don't assume what was true then, is now. I really don't know.

I think it's the opposite actually. The acceptance is so low because no one knows who the gay people are. When Sam Cunningham was running all over Alabama, everyone knew he was black and respected him, so they began to respect other black players until they became widely accepted in the South.

If no one knows who's gay and who's not, it's hard to break the stereotypes and ignorance.

There are plenty of gay guys who are obsessed with lifting weights in gyms and there are plenty of black men who hide their bisexual or gay lifestyles on the down low. I don't think there's any reason to think there aren't at least an average number of gay men playing football.

Good thing everyone is hyperfocused on Boston today.

Also, better for these things to break late on a Friday. Come Monday, it'll be alright.

A bijillion undercover brothers would disagree.

At the end of the day, IDGAF about who a player fricks (so long as it is with consent). If they record 5 sacks, make 6 pancake blocks, or catch 3 TD passes....and then go on a cock sucking spree...who the frick cares. Just win, baby.

Yup, Yahoo Sports just posted this article:

LINK

quote:

Earlier this week, UCLA released it’s “You Can Play Project” video encouraging homosexual athletes in collegiate sports to be comfortable coming out, and football coach Jim Mora was candid about his support for a gay player or coach joining his program.

However, not everyone in college football is as open-minded as Mora.

The Daily Reveille, LSU’s student newspaper, talked to several LSU football players and asked their thoughts about having a gay teammate. The responses, as one could imagine, were diverse.
