Personally? Yes. And I think that is definitely the majority sentiment among ND fans right now. Many have a much lower opinion of BK than me, but while it should be acknowledged how much he improved ND between 2010 and 2022, I think virtually everyone in CFB reckoned he couldn't win a NC there.

Many outside ND feel that is because BK's ceiling at ND was also ND's natural ceiling in CFB today.

Many within ND feel that it was indeed BK's personal ceiling at ND but not the program's. And that a more active recruiter at HC could recruit the necessary talent to bridge the current talent gap.

The early recruiting returns on Freeman are hugely positive. What remains to be seen obviously is just how good he is at developing talent and at game-day coaching. That will ultimately decide how ND fans view his appointment in 4/5 years' time.

Indeed. He won the most games as an ND head coach in part due to his longevity in the position.

He also lost more games as an ND head coach than anyone else, so he's both the winningest and losingest coach in Irish football history.

A better question…
Is why a Mizzou fan cares about LSU coaching.

It's mostly just TrueLefty and he is more triggered by Brian Kelly than LSU itself.

He's pissed because Kelly stole several players from Mizzou so he goes on a rant about Kelly at least once a week.

His writing style is atrocious though so not sure if anyone can understand what he's saying, I think he may legitimately be retarded.

Yes Freeman having a great recruiting class is more important than Kelly’s body of work

Freeman may turn out to be the greatest coach ever at ND and maybe he'll become the next Saban. Unfortunately there are more "can't miss" Tom Herman hires than Kirby Smart hires. Freeman hasn't done crap yet, Kelly has won everywhere he's been and it will be fun to see what he can do with SEC talent.

At least I hope it's going to be fun to see.

get those Elite DLmen and much more overall SPEED they
won`t win in the playoffs.

That LSU team was the greatest clutch team of this century. How analysts watched that AB performance and many thought Joe would be a bust was the most ridiculous thing ever. Also shows how dumb so many scouts are.

ND is also ranked in the top 10

Well sure. It's preseason. They could go 0-12 and still get a top 10 preseason.

How many BCS games did he win? How many titles? Anyone can beat the shitty schedule they play.

I am guessing Kelly came to LSU at the right time to continue that path of winning a championship at LSU. I do not believe that because I am looking at all other teams that have a much better chance to get into the playoff than LSU with all those tough SEC teams. Yes, LSU will be good but so will many other teams and while playing at a much lesser conference like ND (independent), USC, OSU, Clemson, Texas, and OU and maybe a few others.

I'm not sure what you're arguing here. It's to Kelly's credit that he left a Blueblood ND program to hop into the slaughterhouse of the SEC West. Says he's got a lot of confidence in his ability to run a championship program.

As for Freeman, he's an unknown. And early recruiting hints aren't very useful in predicting his ultimate success. It's just a partial picture of one slice of a HC's role. We at LSU, and our players, were all happy to have Mike Archer elevated from DC to HC in 1987, but the guy couldn't run a program.

Really?

SEC teams have won 14 championships in the 24 years since the BCS started. It's always been tough getting through the SEC, but these teams are tempered in fire. Every year SOME team has to win the conference, and that team, more often than not, plays for and usually wins the NC. Playing in the SEC makes winning the NC easier in a way.

I’d say most are, although it was closer to 50/50 in the days after BK left. I had been bored with Kelly for a few years but only wanted him to leave if things lined up where we could somehow get Urban Meyer or had someone younger waiting in the wings who is a relentless recruiter. I didn’t want Luke Fickell or Matt Campbell at all.

Freeman said the most important thing is talent acquisition and filling out a staff with relentless recruiters, and our current staff reflects that. We have gotten high profile recruits to commit or simply come on campus that never would have in previous years. If Freeman is just a slightly above average coach we will be thrilled because he’ll be getting top 5-ish classes every year. I’d rather have a slightly above average coach with a roster filled with top 5-6 classes than a solid coach with a roster whose average recruiting ranking was 12-13, which was the average of BK’s classes.

Name all those other teams that should have gone instead of the irish? You think they would have fared better?
