They see the sinking ship.LSU is going down quicker than the Titanic. They know 2019 was a fluke and They decided to go out on the outlier successful season. Order will be restored this year when the Tide reclaims that top spot. I hope you Tiger fans enjoyed 46-41 because Bama is gonna start a new streak this year.

It is pretty obvious that practice started, Chase and Shelvin realized that they lost 20 guys to the NFL, the team this year is comparatively mediocre, and that they were going to be taking double teams this year that they weren't getting last year.
Their best film already exists, they already have their ring, and all of their friends are in the NFL. They stand only to risk debilitating injury and so decided to sit it out. I can't say I blame them.

Losing Chase and Shelvin are monstrous losses

Chase left because he can't improve over last season with the team losses (particularly Joe B). It's a smart move.
