when the first playoff rankings are released in November.

By that time, both will have defeated Florida. There is no doubt Auburn would be #1 in the Committee rankings if they had wins over Oregon, Texas A&M, Florida, and LSU... ALL AWAY FROM HOME. Incredible.

Likewise, if LSU were to beat Auburn, that paired with their win at Texas and against Florida would likely be enough to put them #1.

I suspect if Ohio State beats Wisconsin that same week, they'll be a for sure #2 in the rankings. A Wisconsin upset of Ohio State would solidify them a Top 4 spot but I'm not sure they'd get to #2.

Just for fun, I'm going to project the First Committee Rankings to look like this:

1. LSU- Assuming they beat AU at home
2. Ohio St.- Assuming they beat WISC at home
3. Georgia
4. Alabama
---
5. Clemson
6. Oklahoma- Assumning they beat Texas
7. Auburn- Assuming they lose to LSU

Currently I do think Auburn would be #1 if the committee released rankings this early.... especially if they were to win next week in Gainesville.

Which is why I believe if LSU beat them, they'll be #1. Essentially whoever wins that game will likely be #1 when the first rankings come out.

I don't disagree with this take. But I don't think Ohio State leapfrogs Alabama if Alabama dominates a ranked A&M in two weeks. I guess it wouldn't be a leapfrog if it's the first committee rankings.

Probably so - or Florida if they win both

But at that point A&M will have 3 losses and not ranked anywhere.

They key is that Ohio State plays Wisconsin the same week Auburn goes to LSU. In all likelihood, Gameday will be in Columbus and they'll hype that game between likely two unbeatens as a major deal.

Yes, Bama will have won at A&M, but after that game A&M will no longer be ranked. That's the difference.

True - I wonder if a 3 loss will be in any poll at that point in the season. If so, A&M will have the "best" three losses in the nation probably. Clemson, Bama, and Auburn...

Good.

I don't want Alabama to be ranked #1 in the final CFP rankings, let alone the first one.

Alabama needs to wear their White jerseys in the CFP Championship Game.

The stubborn pollsters have to leave something on Clemson's schedule to justify keeping them in the top 5.

Auburn will lose 3 games. Florida, LSU, and Bama.

Edited to add Georgia.

True. That would be very surprising though. Florida has not looked like a top 10 team.

Well this isn't SOS. It's Strength of Record.
