With the unfortunate news about Brennan's arm needing surgery, I took a quick look at the Lsu offense last year.

Points Per Game
Brennan: 43.7
Johnson*: 25.0

Yards Per Game
Brennan: 467.3
Johnson*: 418.2

Record
Brennan: 1-2
Johnson*: 2-3

QR Rating
Brennan: 154.7
Johnson: 134.8

*Only included games when Johnson took a significant # of attempts. 3 games were shared with Finley. In those games, the scoring was split 49/51% in favor of Finley.

I know this was supposedly an open competition, but it's fairly obvious that Brennan has been the more productive QB individually and the offense as a whole.

I heard coach O was good with 4 stars. LSU national title incoming.

I mean, MJ was a true freshman thrown in the fire last year.

The games Brennan started were against Mississippi St.(3-7), Vandy (0-9) & Missouri (5-5).

Max came in after TJ blew it against Auburn, Tamu, and Bama.

Max entered the game losing by atleast 3 TD's. Those were not his L's

2-0

You suck again, Farmer

Max brings a little more balance with his legs but Brennan opened up the downfield passing game (which was a key element of the ‘19 system they’re trying to reinstall)

Max did show he can make some of those plays and got that valuable experience last season so hopefully going into year 2 he demonstrates some progression in that area and in the pocket

Brennan's starts were against Mizzou, Vandy and MSU - two of them losses mostly on the d

Johnson's starts were against Fla and Ole Miss (weather was a factor)

Brennan has years of experience as a backup

Johnson was a true fr with no spring practice and a chaotic summer/fall camp and no warm up games against non conf

Wow. I saw them saying that Johnson was better last year.

Since 2015:

Texas Jr: 1 win vs a Top 6 opponent (78 games)

Max Johnson: 1 win vs a Top 6 opponent (2 games)

(Both of those wins came against 2020 Florida lol)

Johnson was also playing on a team with 50 players. Brennan on third downs was dead last in Comp% (46.2%), Succ Rate (19.2%), 3rd-worst Y/A (3.99) 4th-worst raw Acc (50.0%). If you can’t win the money down nothing else matters

1. I am not sure why you're so angry. I am just looking at the QBs based on the #s.

2. Johnson was inserted in the A&M game in the first quarter down 3-0. If anything, it should be easier to score after the other team quit. In those 3 games where this is overlap, the Finley lead offense scored more. The Johnson like offense scored 82% of its points in the 4th when the other team called off the dogs.

Brennan had much better numbers passing downfield. Max is a little lighter on his feet.

This was also a true freshman in covid season. It's definitely bad that Brennan won't play, but LSU will be okay.

That good info. Do you have Johnson's #s on 3rd downs?

Fair but the experience gap isn't going away. Brennan is a 5th year vet now (or is it 4th?) and Johnson is a SO with only 2 starts, 5 games played with passes thrown.

So he'll have more experience than the guys Aggie, Bama, and Florida start?

Why not only use the games Johnson started?

Oof! That really kills the narrative, doesn't it?

Probably because people get irritated at trolling a freshman QB, and the narrative of "haha... why can't your LSU QB do any better than that?". He was a true freshman QB starting in the SEC.

Like I said, this is bad for LSU. Those first 6 games are all winnable with Brennan or Johnson, but we'll probably look a little uglier.

LSU will be fine and both Brennan and Johnson went through Spring and Summer with the new OC.

The bonafides for both QBs are better than just about all recent LSU QBs save one obviously.

However, you’ve left out some pretty important context regarding Johnson that others have pointed out. If you’re going to act like you’re engaging in honest FB discussion, then present all the facts and context.

Max Johson 58.7% completion pct
Myles Brennan 60.3%

in before the sidewalk fan and other lsu types...

yes. Bryce Young was also around 60% but he was playing with the rest of the 2nd and 3rd team, including receivers, linemen, and blocking backs. The defenses playing against them were often starters trying not to be embarrassed by Alabama's substitute players.
