Saint Nicholas ultimately signed off on Geno Smith's transfer to the school he wanted to go to.

I think the SEC decided to make this an unwritten rule for its members. It is a way to stop other teams from raiding their recruiting territory.

Considering it would be a violation otherwise, I'm sure it'd be along the lines of "We did nothing."
But it doesn't change the logic of the situation. Typically, action requires some motivation. Either we have that Coach O is just mean or there is some catalyst for this decision.
I mean, Allen can go to Miami or Texas and actually play against LSU in the future; they aren't blocked.

TCU and Allen broke NCAA rules and recruited him off the team. They didn't ask permission from LSU to speak to them about transferring.... Simple as that.

LOL - so much hypocrisy fro m LSU fans on this issue

So let me get this straight! You are saying that it is ok for other schools to actively recruit players off of an active roster? So now, not only do you have to spend countless hours and money getting them to commit you now have to do the same with all active players.
That is stupdi. This is the reason players should get a salary

Welcome to the club LSU.
Just for the record TCU was alleged to be illegally recruiting (by staff member) Willie Allen while he was still in the LSU program. That is the alleged reason for the TCU block. Willie Allen has not denied that.
As for Texas and satellite camps, The last couple of years UT has pulled some underhanded moves like prompting one of our top recruits to stay committed to LSU until NSD all the while he was a silent commit to UT. Reasoning was Charlie Strong did not want LSU trying to talk him out of it. Toshiro Davis did something similar. Mostly I just think it has more to do with LSU in general getting heat from the fans and the media about letting in state talent get away.

You try to recruit guys on our active roster, we block them from going to your school. Pretty simple.
Are you really going to pretend that EVERY single school doesn't do this? You want to act like Eddie has never done that shite? Really?

They call it a silent commit for a reason. Jesus you LSU fans are such snowflake titty babies.

No doubt but I remember everybody crucifying Nick Saban for not letting Maurice Smith go to Georgia to the point he finally said frick it and let him go. Another SEC school.
This isn't special to Saban, but Saban situation was different. Why he had to give in.
The ncaa needs to start coming out telling people that schools have every right to do this. Heck Dooley was crucified by UT fans for doing something similar.
I agree with a school being able to say no to a reasonable amount of schools. People act like an 18 cant sign something committing to something he cant get out of the way he prefers. Ummmmmm I wonder if there's any other commitments an 18yo can get himself into, and gives up control...ummmmmm :head-scratcher:
