Maybe if Wing had not have been worried about running down and getting in Maze's face and talking shite, his punts would have been better, and maybe his team wouldn't have gotten throttled.

just part of a horrible night. Wing's punting had been nothing but awesome. But he was due all year for one run back or a long return. Maze made a fine run and good moves along with good blocking. Just part of a bad game.

The fact that Wing is going to be here another 3 years isn't even the scariest thing about the Wing family. He has a little brother that is a freshman in high school right now in BR that can already do the same things Brad is doing right now. As soon as one Wing graduates another one will be enrolling.

Good point Hunter...
You know I didn't even realize that until your post.
You know I really just think Wing outkicked his coverage on the Maze return, but I think the main thing is that is was a low kick compared to previous ones.
Credit Maze for lining up so deep in the first place, and the Bama blockers for helping him get past the first wave, which has not happened all season.
Sorry for being rude to you yesterday, BTW...

I'm pretty sure on the big punt return there were 2 blocks in the back not called.

Hmmmm. Does the kid brother have a girl friend?

That was a very loosely called game. I saw a lot more mis-calls. I'll even say that most of them hurt LSU. The definitely let the players go at it.

Maze had more punt return yards by the time he got past the first tackler or wave than LSU had given up all year

I find Wing's arrogance comical. Dude, I realize you're a punter and have never been hit so you dont really understand payback but dont talk shite and just kick the ball.
The key to the second (long) punt return was the first one. Wing boomed it 59 yards and sent Maze back 10 yards to field it. This set Maze up deeper on the next punt and when Wing outkicked the coverage Maze was under and ready. Kickers/Punters are strange birds. The mental aspect is such a large factor of what they do that it's very easy for them to fall off of the mental edge. Wing had a bad shank in the Nov 5th game also.

The first punt went over his head about 15 yards. I think he got it by that point. BW is an amazing talent. Maze did have that kind of explosive punt run back talent that Arenas had. I think he got it from him. HB7 seems to have it also. It takes a special kind of talent to break through the gunners then penetrate through the next level. If you can then a TD becomes very possible.

Just further proof that every facet of that game on January 9th for LSU was a complete cluster-frick. The team was simply not prepared.
Team loss.

We wanted to continue the theme of doing things in the NC game we didn't do in the regular season.
Pre-snap penalties, missed tackles, and fumbling the snap just weren't gonna cut it

Lsu fans, a question about the punt returns in the NC game...
In the 13 games leading up to the NC game, Lsu had only given up a total of 6 yards the entire season. Against Bama, in the NC game, they gave up 67 yds on 3 returns, one of which could maybe have been a td if Maze hadn't pulled up hurt.
First, Lsu's coverage was nothing short of amazing for the year, don't know if we'll ever see anything like that again. Before the NC, they gave up .3 yards per return, and afterwards, still only averaged 1.4 per return.
I haven't studied the film or anything, but was the coverages being used ran differently or were there some busted coverages during those 3 returns, good blocking by Bama or a combo of those things?
Really as much as anything else, I think that you can just expect some season trends to change after a long break between games.
If they played the week after the SEC championship I'm not sure they give up those long returns.
Looked to me that the gunners over ran the play
