To me the big question is this:
Do A&M and Mizzori give us more money through the markets they open up than we lose by now having to split the pot 15 ways.
If we start an SEC network getting those two schools is HUGE. Each member school will be set for the foreseeable future. It also sets up for academic research money by adding two AAU schools AAU worthy institutions such as UGA and UF will now get a fair shot at joining and every member school will have more political power when getting research grants.

The NFL is hurting the SEC more than anything. Imagine the SEC this season with Cam, Ingram, Julio, Mallet, PP7,etc.

Yeah, theoretically.
But it isn't like folks are necessarily huge followers of the team in question. Don't know the ratings numbers they will attach, especially considering that Mizzou especially doesn't really have a history of success like the higher end teams of the SEC.
Take Kansas City for instance: I think Mizzou takes a back seat to a couple of schools like Kansas and Kansas state.... You can't just point at the general market and claim that Mizzou brings all that with them.

UF has been a member of the AAU since 1985. UGA would be the next potential member though.

Open up 3 pretty big markets. Houston, Kansas
City and St. Louis.
more than just houston - all of texas may be affected when it comes to cable deals/subscription fees generated

It doesnt matter. The way the network gets set up you get increased money for states where you have a school. Take for example the big ten network
They get
.75 cents per cable subscriber in pennsylvania but only 25 cents in louisiana (im not exactly sure on the money number but I am sure it is a significant difference)
Adding texas and Missouri television markets while keeping a somewhat logical geographic area is a pretty dang good job by Slive. The only better option was Va Tech.

he is also talking about the over signing restrictions, which will affect the depth of teams.. and he is right, we probably will not see defenses like LSU and Bama's 5 years from now..

I wonder what is going to happen down the stretch.
Mizzou is going to give Hawaii competition for travel time/expenses for all of those Eastern teams they will have to play.

Eh, I think he is wayyyyy overestimating the influence of that.
Oversigning helps the mid majors take a step up more than it helps the LSU's and Bama's of the world.
We can just go out and grab the top recruits.
The ones a step back need to do a little more sifting to get closer to that quality. Seeing players in camp, etc.

when people mapped it out there turns out to be a minimal difference (in travel distance for MU) between putting them in the West and the East. Something like an average difference of 90 miles per road trip.
Which makes a certain about of sense when you look at a map, MU is in the near geographic middle of a very centrally located state

I didn't read that shite when I saw it on SI's website yesterday.
More of the train of thought which implies that Mizzou and Texas A&M have some kind of leprosy which they're bringing over which will spread to the other teams and somehow magically make them suck.

Pullman Washington is 1115 miles from los angeles
Columbia missouri is 1007 miles from gainsville
Mizzou is fairly close to Vandy UT Kentucky and Arkansas and reportedly chose TAMU as their opponent rather than Arky because of recruiting

:notsureifserious:
It isn't a function of how far the furthest possible opponent is.
Its average distances.
Sure LA is that far. But Oregon, Oregon state, Washington state are next door.
They will be going 700+ miles for almost every one of their away East games.

Just a few of the respective trips
Pullman to palo alto 901
Pullman to LA is 1115 x2
Pullman to corvallis Or 430 miles
Pullman to eugene Or 460 miles
Columbia to nashville 432 miles
Columbia to lexington 458
Columbia to fayetteville (which reportedly they chose against) 311 miles
Columbia to knoxville 609
Columbia to Athens 736
Its not THAT big of a difference

I would have rather seen WVU than Mizzou.

Don't the bigwigs say something along these lines every year. Every team, conference, etc has its ebb and flow. Does anyone really think aTm or Mizzou is going to steal recruits from LA/BAMA/FL?

Touché
They still should be in the West ideally though.
