Have to give him credit. He stuck with that take until the bitter end.

It’s an idiotic take. Exactly what one would expect from a Bama t-shirt fan.

They were not “refunded” anything. There can only be one official form of stoppage of play. Since the penalty was called the official timeout by the officiating crew took precedence.

You may want to visit an the eye doctor. Clock is clearly at 0:00 when helmet comes off. If not, everyone running on the field would also be a penalty.

The crazy ending reminds me of the Alabama HS championship between Thompson and Auburn a few years back.

They had two timeouts. One was called (and given back to them) because of the penalty which led to an official stoppage of play. They then called their first of two remaining (after the fifteen yard penalty) and then their last on the third down stoppage. With the clock stopped for the final time that partially blocked the punt on 4th down giving them excellent field position for the eventual game winning field goal. Bottom line, it ain’t over until it is over. Keep your damn helmet on.

Wrong. Bottom line, refs hosed kids…again…by not knowing the rules of the game. If they didn’t get the TO back, it would have just taken an extra kneel down and game is still over. If you’re going to officiate a game, then KNOW THE FREAKING RULES!

There is no such rule of “only one official stoppage of play,” but even if there was, it would depend on when the timeout was called. Unless the opposing coach was a moron and waited 2-3 seconds to call the TO, then the timeout was the “official stoppage of play” that you referenced and the player taking off his helmet was during a timeout.

It’s possible that shouldn’t have even been a penalty if it happened during a timeout (although the throwing part might still have gotten one). Teams are allowed to take their helmets off during timeouts. Unless no timeout was called prior to the penalty, the refs lost this game. That should never, ever happen.

That poor kid. He wasn’t even rubbing it in. In no way was that unsportsmanlike but you’re correct that is the rule. Really hate that for that kid, his family. Anyone who does not think his life in that community will be hell because people are idiots.

Something similar happened here in GA recently in a state title game. The best part was the losing team was coached by Rush Propst.

And of course the Browns did it too because they're the Browns.

Wrong.
Wrong on what? They had two timeouts when the play occurred. They were going to call a timeout to stop play when the flag was thrown. Official timeout stopped the clock due to unsportsmanlike conduct. They then still had two timeouts (2nd and 3rd down stoppages). Partial blocked put the ball on their side of the field. End of story.

Is there a video showing the timeout occurred after the penalty or that the refs allowed 2-3 seconds to come off the clock since the penalty happened 2-3 seconds later? Most coaches call timeouts immediately after the player hits a knee and not 2-3 seconds afterwards. Posters indicated the timeout was given back, which if it was called before the penalty, was against the rules and cost the team the game.

Edit: your post indicates they didn’t even call the timeout, which contradicts the posters earlier in this thread. What actually happened in terms of the timeout call and when it happened or didn’t happen is what determines if the refs screwed a team over or not. People appear to be changing the story of what happened. The original video doesn’t show enough information about the timeouts.

It does not matter if he called the timeout or not. The officiating crew called an unsportsmanlike penalty stopping the clock and negating the timeout the winning team would have called (before or after). Only one stoppage is used during play.

The game was over, and you don’t throw penalties on games that are done. Total hose job by the refs

St Charles had two timeouts left when it happened. Even if he does nothing, they had to snap the ball at least once more. And notice, none of his teammates threw their helmets.

Which one of the refs were you? Or were they your family members?

Saying it doesn’t it matter when the timeout was called is just idiotic. You keep trying to make up rules that don’t exist. If the timeout was called prior to the helmet throw, the timeout was enforce at the time of the helmet throw. The kid threw his helmet during a timeout. You can’t say the kid threw his helmet during the play, because he didn’t. If the timeout was called, that was the stoppage. The penalty would have been during the stoppage. You can’t retroactively give a timeout back because a penalty happened during the timeout. You are making up rules that don’t exist.

Let’s make this simple for you. Which of these did you see on the video?

1 - A flag for unsportsmanlike conduct?

2 - A referee signaling that St Charles had called a timeout?

One happened. The other did not. It is that simple.

As much as you complain about the refs you should become an LSU fan.

Ref had to call it. Sucks for the kid and his team but sometimes these are the best life lessons you can ever get. Does he go on forever blaming the refs or himself … or does he learn from it and change his character?
