That’s dumb unless the other team had a TO. You’re arguing that coaches should be penalized for leaving the sideline early. It’s a completely dumb argument

No, it isn’t. I’ll take a stickler for the rules in all situations over a wishy-washy ref who calls some things or lets feelings dictate what rules he chooses to apply and when.
Then coaches and teams should get flagged for being on the field when there is time still running. Dumb argument

I’d agree if the other team didn’t have timeouts. The game wasn’t over and the player didn’t know the situation.
The coach didn’t help the situation by kneeling it out on the subsequent plays costing more yardage.

Then it should have been a penalty, but the timeout shouldn’t have been refunded. Dead ball penalties after a time out don’t cancel the timeout. If it was a live ball penalty, then the time out should have been refunded. Still a total hose job by the refs

Kneeling it out of the shotgun, too.

Just rewatched it and the helmet comes off 2-3 seconds after the play was over (he literally had taken a few steps towards his sideline before doing it). In no world should a timeout be refunded when a dead ball penalty happens 2 seconds after the timeout is taken. This was an utter failure by the officials in a game not knowing the rules. And kids have to suffer because adults don’t do their job correctly…rules of football just aren’t that hard to remember

Sucks for that kid. He’s going to have a hard time finding work at the local Chevy dealership after dropping out of Delgado like Cajunbama. Maybe cb can get him a job at Lowe’s stocking shelves.

That is former user MulkeyMans grandkid. Stupid little bastard could only get into Shaw or De La Salle.

It’s a stupid rule. In no way did taking off his helmet effect the play in the game. The refs should have let it go.

Feel bad because obviously the coaches don't teach sportsmanship.

Confirms that the helmet was taken off and tossed while the ball was still live. Should have been a 15yd penalty and UT should have gotten another kick at a drastically shorter range. Ball wasn’t dead until the 2 Bama defenders jumped on it and secured possession.
That said, the refs got it “right” by ignoring the penalty. These HS refs screwed that high school team inexplicably by not knowing the rules of when timeouts are given back to a team. It isn’t after dead ball penalties after the timeout is called. Sad

There was still time on the clock after the game winning FG.
The Shaw player is just a kid but he must have encountered this before…..

They had two timeouts. One was called (and given back to them) because of the penalty which led to an official stoppage of play. They then called their first of two remaining (after the fifteen yard penalty) and then their last on the third down stoppage. With the clock stopped for the final time that partially blocked the punt on 4th down giving them excellent field position for the eventual game winning field goal.
Bottom line, it ain’t over until it is over. Keep your damn helmet on.

Meh, we always blame the kicker but there are two other folks involved in that equation.

I really feel bad for the kid but it is a rule and has to be called.

Damn that’s rough. Gonna suck for that kid at school for a while

Kid really needs to look into transferring. Preferably to the other team's school .. Since he was their MVP

Coaches and entire teams come on the field while the game isn’t over once the last snap of the game has been taken. This kid has watched that happen his whole life. Once the last snap is taken, refs completely ignore the rule books in every single game in the country at every level of football. This was a complete failure by the refs that threw the penalty. The game was over, and you don’t throw penalties on games that are done. Total hose job by the refs
The game wasn’t over, they had to kneel multiple times.
