My only question is why didn't you stop to say hello? We would have talked and shared all of our deep fried oreos and candy bars. I always carry ranch dressing in my fanny pack if you needed any

This is as dangerous a topic as you could try to have a serious conversation about, but as stated to really get down to causation it’s a cultural thing.

People of all races in the south eat too much of the wrong things and work out too little.

Part of it has to do with poor food availability both in the inner city and rural areas. When you get your food at a dollar general or a gas station convenience mart you just don’t have many healthy non-processed options available. Add in cost, the effort it takes to make your own healthy meals and generational habits and the result is what you see on those obesity lists.

We would be much better off if we ignored 80% of what’s sold on the shelves and ate mostly what’s fresh and unprocessed. The problem is that we are so trained to eat sugar and processed foods that it’s almost impossible to undo the current situation.

I can tell you from my business travels that Tennessee folks seem to be the fattest. Plus you can see it when the TV cameras pan the fans at UT football games. Even the students are fat.

15. Fayetteville, AR

This is a bit of a surprise because Fayetteville has a massive exercise, biking, and hiking community.
