Meh.

Will Stein shits the bed against good competition as OC and a complete unknown as a head coach.

Kentucky will build a half-arse program and piss it away as usual.

No they haven't. Don't have the history, fan support, the funding, or the talent base to be a "giant".

But they could be a good program consistently and have random years with 10 wins that tease the playoffs if they can keep a strong head coach.

ETA:

But the new coach seems strong and has put together some good pieces, besides Joe Sloan, who I'm sure is just an OC in title considered the HC strengths.

Kentucky has a shite load of money and fan support for basketball. If they ever get serious about winning, they will. Football has always just been a secondary sport up there and will remain a secondary sport up there.

Same. That's why they should get 1 free transfer with immediate eligibility. After the 1 transfer, make them sit a year like we used to.

Agree with this approach. Get to do it once without penalty. Then you're done.

Overnight that would change the dynamics of college football and the portal for the better.

“The product is getting better” is probably the dumbest statement made on a football message board in the history of message boards. No one with an ounce of sanity would say college football is better today than 5 years ago

There better worry about their basketball program...
Our only point guard is out for the season after shoulder surgery. Pretty sure we don't have to worry about basketball until next year.

Quietly putting together a badass class right now.
In what sport? We've got a few SEC transfers and division 1 but I'm also seeing a bunch of transfers from mid majors... Gonna take the wait and see approach

The message is clear though now from Indiana. All you really need is a good coach and staff and buy in to some degree from the university to compete anywhere now. No one else really has much excuse to be really shite every year.

That's kind of always been the case. Why are people acting like it's some new possibility?

They have Joe Sloan. They aren’t building anything.

I just read on the coaching changes board that Joe Sloan is an OC in title only and will not be responsible for calling plays or designing the offense. If true, big win for Kentucky before the season even starts. He is fricking awful.

Big ole huge false on fan support.

Been to them all except TX and Miz. Have been complimented many times about how well we travel. And it's true.

Looking at the transfers coming in apparently the Kraft's have opened up the pocket book.

And with kids chasing the $$'s talent base isn't as important.

As I said, I just read that on the coaching changes board. So, instead of starting a new thread, I searched for Joe Sloan's name and added to this thread. I guess it is weird for someone to do something the way it is designed to do.
