This game tomorrow won't have any of the prior magic and excitement this game used to have. Nebraska's in bad shape and I believe Lincoln Riley will hold the score down and try not to embarrass too badly a once proud rival. I hope OU doesn't run it up.

No, Nebraska isn't the Nebraska of yonder years, sadly. But, I can still remember the classic 1971 face-off between NU & OU, #1 @#2! The Game of The Century.

Nebraska won, 35-31...the game went back & forth. Everybody forgot all about their Thanksgiving dinners and watched this game.

This 1971 Nebraska squad is widely regarded as being the best college football team of all time (others are 1972 USC Trojans, 1995 Nebraska).

They won 12 of their 13 games by a minimum of 24 points, beat #3 Colorado (then #9) 31-7, and #4 Alabama (then #2) in the Orange Bowl, 38-6. They demolished everybody except...Oklahoma.

#2 OU crushed #5 Auburn in the Sugar Bowl, 40-22, and finished 11-1, and #3 Colorado defeated #15 Houston in the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl, 29-17, to finish 10-2.

Nebraska ended up 13-0 and #1, OU #2, and Colorado #3, the first and only time a conference ended the season with the top 3 ranked teams. Alabama finished #4.

Why would anyone look forward to a 55-10 blowout. No matter what the tradition is, that's going to be an atrocious game.

I hope NU can at least put up some semblance of a fight. Hard to believe how far they've fallen.

I have a feeling Nebraska will perform better than the pundits think. It’s already pretty crazy in the campus bars. Should be a fun game!

How many seasons does it take for sucking at football to become the new tradition at a school? Nebraska must be well on its way. OU by 35+

The OU-Nebraska game is obviously no longer a rivalry …. but this game is meaningful to old guys like me that remember the classics from the 70’s and 80’s. It will be cool to see the helmets on the same field again.

I was not claiming a nexus between the two. Just pointing out that it is pretty electric with the two fan bases. These are two fan bases that legitimately respect each other …. at least until kickoff!!

There had been several "so called" Games of the Century prior to that one...

But that one was the first one that was an offensive shootout rather than a defensive game.

Having both teams score in the 30s back then was not very common.

Teams like Nebraska and Michigan like to follow the cfb trend and spread it out a lot more. They're not the traditional teams I grew up watching. Michigan is trying to re-establish its identity as a power running team.

He doesn't know what he's talking about nor does he have a clue about the relationship between Sooner/Husker fans. Ignore him.

Honestly think one of the biggest games I enjoyed watching growing up was OU Nebraska. One of many casualties of the B12 but probably the biggest because it ended so much history between 2 bonafide national powers.

I'm sure it ripped the heart out of many longtime fans of both programs.

I thought I was old. Damn. You watched the 1971 game live? I was born that year.

Respect was paramount in how each fan base (and the teams) felt about the other. I went to a couple of them, one in Lincoln and the other in Norman.

No apology necessary. I really like the banter on this SEC board. Can’t wait until my Sooners arrive and develop new rivals!! I will confess that I believe the majority of OU fans are in for a rude awakening if they think OU is going to dominate in SEC like they have the Big 12. Other than possibly Vandy … I just don’t see any easy games over here. It’s going to be fun though!!!

Never easy. But Oklahoma will be in the mix. Too good a program. What is crazy is Nebraska. How good a coach was Tom Osbourne? They haven’t been the same since he left. They didn’t think the last 20 years could’ve happened to them.
