was it the best coaching performance of all time? The man won 9 games 2 years in a row. At Vanderbilt.

And completely destroyed them when he left. The coach before him (Johnson? too lazy to look) did a great X's and O's job with them. I thought he was a very underrated coach

He had the highest winning percentage there since 1948 and has 2/3 of their ranked seasons
.
it probably is the greatest coaching job ever.

I dont think Penn State is the powerhouse they think they are imagine Franklin at Alabama.

SEC East? Lol what difference does it make? This is Vandy we're talking about here...I think Franklin is a world class creep, but you can't discount what it takes to win that many games at Vanderbilt.

Meh, just taking an easy shot. I actually agree that he did a fantastic job, but you do have admit that the SEC East around that time was nowhere near what it is now.

Three East teams finished in the top 10 in 2012; two in 2013.

Dude is overrated even though he did a good job at vandy. Why are you randomly thinking about Franklin?

He did a great job while HC there, but he pissed a lot of college football coaches off when he took a boat load full of Vandy's top recruits with him. Legal but shitty.

Somebody in a thread earlier this week said Vandy and a couple of other schools were “death jobs” and we didn’t need them in the SEC. I replied that Franklin rode that Vandy job to Penn State, currently undefeated and ranked #7. I don’t like the guy personally but he can recruit and coach.

A lot of people forget this. Florida and Tennessee were awful. UGA and SC were better but not world killers.

Franklin did well given the circumstances but I think a lot of coaches would've done well with those circumstances as well. The success he had wouldn't have been sustainable though and he knew that.

He’s got a good team at Penn State. We will see tomorrow. At Noon how good they are. Their QB is legit.
