Plan on heading up to Lexington for the LSU game in early October.
Can I get some suggestions on best location to stay in Lexington? Also any recommendations on the bourbon trail and horse farms/tracks would be helpful. TIA

Just pray that your head coach does not get dumped by his 26 year old girlfriend the week of that game. It doesn't end well based on previous experience.

I did buffalo trace and it was pretty awesome.

Make sure yall go to Keenland on Saturday before the game. We went when LSU played there last time. It was awesome and a great way to tailgate before the game.

Buffalo Trace is cool, just because of how big it is. Castle and Key is a great tour as well - old historic buildings, beautiful grounds, and a pretty good bourbon you've probably not had before.
Of the distilleries in the area though Old Forrester, in Louisville, has been my favorite. They have an on-site cooperage that was really cool to see.
As for other things to do as others have said you have to go to Keeneland. I'd even put that over a distillery tour if I had to pick.

Keeneland fall meet will be going on then, so you'd be a fool to come in to town and not do that.
I can't speak to the bourbon tours. Ive done a couple of them, and they're all nice, but I live here and take all of that for granted. IMO the drive to Woodford Reserve is extremely beautiful in the fall.
Not sure about horse farm tours. I live here and drive by them all day every day, so not something I've ever looked into. I'm sure someone on here can recommend one based on their experience visiting.
Where to stay in town depends on what you're trying to do. Most of the hotels worth recommending are either downtown, or out in the suburbs. Not really any around the stadium area.
If you're going to have your own vehicle, just book something downtown. Lexington isn't too big per we. Drive 10-15 minutes in any direction from downtown and you'll be out of town usually unless it's rush hour.

You really can't go wrong with the bourbon tours. They are all highly rated by visitors. Id personally recommend The Woodford Reserve Tour.
Woodford Reserve
The stay is more a personal preference thing - everyone is different. I'd recommend:
The Manchester The Manchester is in the distillery district, so this may be ideal. You'll have a wonderful experience here.
Marriott City Center
Enjoy the visit.
