There's also a nice quarry in South Knoxville across the river that we used to go swimming in a bunch. It's got a few cliff jumps too. Pretty fun place

We have only had a couple rain events in the past 3 weeks here. I hope it isn't indicative of a dry summer.

Columbia has never really utilized our waterways enough for tourism in my opinion. It has gotten better, though. I do like the variety. We have rocky areas with some little rapids on the Saluda and Broad Rivers, then we have slow flowing (considered blackwater?) Congaree River that goes through the national park. Then of course, Lake Murray is your typical southern reservoir with the usual amenities. All of this in the Columbia area.

In town, Lake Fayetteville, Lake Wedington, Lake Sequoyah, Lake Wilson.

20 minutes away - Beaver Lake.

We have that clear/aqua lake and river water up here in the Ozarks. Not mud, like a couple hours south.

Beaver Dam

Buffalo River

Lots of lakes near Knoxville...but the favorite place for undergrads to go is The Sinks in the nearby Smoky Mountains.

LSU also has False River not too far from BR. Great for wake boarding, tubeing, and a few drive through daiquiri bars right by the water.

It is now an oxbow lake, but was once a main channel in the Mississippi River before being cut off by natural causes. So hey, no bull sharks

At the deepest point it's like 20 ft. Sometimes during the year it's as low as 5.

Tiki Tubing outside of Baton Rouge. Trashy as hell but a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Does your school have any cool, open to the public, water spots near town?
Including cliff jumping, rope swinging, drinking, or anything else fun.

We encourage Mississippi residents to jump off this:

The best thing about Columbia during the summer.. tubing down the river and partying on the rocks. Lots of alcohol and grass in the air.

I miss undergrad.

Most of the beauty in our sunsets come from the different colors reflecting off clouds. The fact that our climate tends to have tons of afternoon clouds really helps give our sunsets a lot of different colors.

Certainly not saying they are the best in the world or anything, but South Louisiana is known for beautiful sunsets.

fair enough, Im a former sailor all i ever thought of it was "red sky at night sailors delight red sky in the morn sailors be warned"

The Pinnacles--15 minutes north of Columbia

Missouri River--10 minutes west of Columbia

Rock Bridge State Park--in Columbia

Stephen's Lake Park--in Columbia

And if you're willing to drive a bit, just an hour away is the trashiest, classiest most sterotypical Ozark party you'll find.

Lake of the Ozarks--1 hour south of Columbia
