Wasn’t an Alabama fan until I went to college there, so call me 13 years into the rivalry.

Honestly? I don’t have a ton of resentment towards Auburn. I think our biggest “on-field” rival has been LSU until recently. That was always the big game I looked forward to the most.

In terms of hate? I would absolutely say it’s Georgia. I don’t hate players, because they are just doing their job. But I can hate fans and fanbases. They are as drunk as LSU’s bad fans, have the trophy case of Ole Miss, and the arrogance of someone with Alabama’s accolades. They think they went to Harvard, when in reality their 1996 degree in business management is only of value because the Hope scholarship recently drove admissions requirements through the roof, and the sheer number of qualified kids in Atlanta is 10x what it was 30 years ago, so alas, better students for free school. Not to mention the fans in South Georgia and north of Woodstock. Oh man. A special, special breed. They love UGA so much that the one cousin that actually went there is famous in the family.

Athens is an overrated experience once you get past 21 and can drink freely without having ID problems, and the homeless issue there rivals some of the worst “big cities” I’ve ever seen.

Auburn is kind of benign. I’m actually best friends with a lot of their alumni. I thought they were kinda culty when I got to school in 2008, but then A&M got to the conference and gave me some perspective. The family thing is whatever, and their whole, “y’all only love Alabama football, we love Auburn,” schtick is a coping mechanism, so I kinda feel bad.

Auburn athletics has a nice, core fanbase and perform well even though they are obviously #2 in resources and coverage in the state.

Do I like Auburn? No. You can’t as an Alabama fan. But in terms of “hate,” the feeling really does fall short.

Looking forward to Sunday’s “War Eagle, anyways,” posts on social media.
