We aren’t being pissy. Just telling you Les is Les and this is a Lesism. Google Les Miles quotes and enjoy the next 15 minutes of your life. I guarantee you will laugh out loud.

The LSU Facebook moms let emotion take over and we were forced to retain him for an extra year.

It was the worst example of how an AD got his nuts beat into his torso by politics.

It’s just Miles-speak. He uses certain words often in his interviews. Similar to how Orgeron uses “tremendous.”

It’s just that Miles’ use of “decent” isn’t as strong of a complimentary adjective as Coach O’s.

Is LSU a top ten job?

Their all time winning % is .652 good for 14th all time. Basically based on history they are going to win 7-9 games a year and occasionally 10+.

I think it is better than decent , definitely good to very good but just below elite top ten status.

In no way do I say that to demean LSU, I think they have a terrific football program but their fans IMO have unrealistic expectations because of what Bama has done in the last ten years.

In the context of what Miles was saying I don’t think he meant that as a slight to LSU. To me he was saying he was happy where he was at the time.

Nice try at the historical minimization there, but LSU has averaged 10 wins over the previous 2 decades. Since the 90s our worst season has had eight wins . Looked at it objectively, I would argue LSU is the 9th best program in CFB history and higher since 2000. All while playing the most top-heavy schedule of any top program over that time, facing 3 teams every year that have won national championships during that period. And also objectively on an upswing.

Les is a decent coach so no offense taken

one could say this is about as "offensive" as Les gets.

That’s if you include Boise (lol) and FSU who has 200+ fewer all time wins.

Contexts is hard.

Not trying to minimize anything. I just think LSU fans have let Bama obsession skew their expectations over the recent years. Had the SEC championships been spread around to five or six teams over the last ten years instead of basically Bama/Bama/Bama then the angst that you are feeling today would not be so painful.

IMO, had WVU beaten Pitt, I think he would have gone to Michigan. Herbstreit probably called it a done deal because he, like most of us, thought that WVU beating Pitt was a foregone conclusion.

That’s rich. An MSU fan talking up from the second lowest rung about football angst. Say hi to Vandy for us.

He's currently coaching a lower caliber team. The way his words come off to his players and constituents is the #1 concern in interviews.

I wouldn't expect him to say, "LSU is the best job in the world. I wish I was still there."

Good Question there.

I am not sure I could do a Top Ten. I think this would be more of a group of jobs that are top fifteen without specifying that one is better than the other.

SEC group-Bama, UGA, Florida, LSU, Auburn would be the top five. UT was but is no longer.

ACC-Clemson, FSU. Miami was but is no longer.

Big Ten-Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State. Nebraska was but is no longer.,

Big 12-Texas, Oklahoma

PAC whatever- USC, Washington

Notre Dame

So in that respect I can say LSU is an elite job as it is in the top fifteen. The LSU program is certainly capable of winning championships but I stand by statement that a majority of the fan base has let the Bama success skew their expectations in the most recent years.

Now there are programs that are just outside that level that are quite good such as Wisconsin, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Miss State, Utah, Stanford, Oregon, UCLA, Boise State, Iowa, USCe, and others who are capable of making a run here and there but are definitely not in the top fifteen.
