The writing was on the wall that Jimbo has brought in more talented safeties than O'Neal and he wasn't going to get playing time. Time to go.

He's been passed up on the depth chart. Great ambassador for A&M, but simply too slow for safety. Didn't want to spin down to LB, and the portal is a ticket to free agency these days

Plus, A&M still has more work to do to get the entire recruiting class on campus - I think there will be more attrition after the Spring. Tough to turn over the roster

If he was as active on the field as his fingers are on twitter, then yea, he'd be a Junior to look out for in SEC competition next year.

Talented kid, but way too big of a mouth. A&M would be better off playing one of the kids from the more recent recruiting classes imo

Right now based on the 2019 roster and factoring in who has entered the portal and/or departed only 1-2 have to leave to get to 85.

Interested to hear what this is all about. Recently the DB recruiting has been solid. Leon is a good player but didn’t show elite speed.

Edit: I like the kid, and wish him well.

He should have spun down to linebacker. He’s a bit slow. But I’d love him to reconsider and stay in Aggyland.

They were comparing him to Howard Matthews this morning (the same Howard Matthews getting trucked by Fournette in the gif we always see).

I think you're on to something.

Maybe someone like Brian Williams or A.J. Johnson

or this guy Jaylon Jones

Spin down to linebacker Mr. O'Neal, we like ya at Texas A&M. If you decide to go, Thank You for recruiting for the Aggies and helping us land some studs.

Jaylon Jones will play corner, not safety.

Also, forgot this guy at safety as well: Erick Young was moved to safety midway through last season

I stand corrected. Thanks for reminding me JJ is a CB.

Aggie in the office told me they wanted to move him to a hybrid linebacker position

Look, I'm not going to play the propaganda game and say I'm happy he's leaving...but he's not the first #1 player in an A&M recruiting class to fall well short of his potential.

2009 Stephen Barrera
2007 Derrick Stephens

Mack has a solid career. You don't exactly put up double digit sack #s as a nose tackle.

No but he was a 5 star recruit and top 15 recruit nationally, and he was drafted in the 5th round. Didn't say he was terrible, just didn't live up to his potential. And he really didn't do much at all until his senior season.

Did some additional digging here, for context.

If we removed the LSU game from Aggy's stats (it's not really fair to judge a middle-tier team against tGOAT SEC offense), Texas A&M's defense allowed more yards per play when Leon WAS NOT on the field.

Texas A&M also allowed more total TDs and opposing QBs had a higher TD rate with Leon on the sideline.

This is a huge loss for Elko's defense.

I hate to see an SEC defense get worse. Not good for the conference.

This is the idiot who tweeted that he couldn't wait to put people like Guice to sleep when he was in high school and Guice was leaving for the draft.

Also, I wish more aggies would say "spin down to lb" here. 5 times isn't enough
