Many, many years ago as a kid I got his autograph. The only card I had at the time was this one...

Being a little kid, it was the highlight of my life for a long time. Still have that card.

What a loss. They don't make them like that anymore. It's a sad day indeed.

Indeed, my grandfather used to tell me stories about Hammering Hank. Also how big baseball (stickball) was in Mobile people forget how much talent that didn't get to the Majors and had to play in the Negro League. Basically 6 on 6 Baseball where he grew up kinda help integrate parts of Mobile...Catcher, Pitcher two infielders and two outfielder in Stickball. Now that covering some ground!

Chipper Jones as well never struck out 100 times in a season. Mike Trout has done it 7 times.

So sad!

Growing up in Atlanta Hammering Hank was really the only good thing about Atlanta sports. The night he hit 715 I had gotten my braces on the day, those God awful full metal mouth braces, and my parents let me stay up to watch the whole game.

I really loved watching him play at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium sitting my Dad in centerfield in the $1.00 seats!

Not pointing fingers at anyone, but certainly not before steroids. The NFL had players whose arms were the size of houses at the time when these guys were on the field. Many HOF baseball players told stories of speed openly sitting on trainers and card tables and were readily seen in lockers. That stuff alone will help you catch up with a Bob Gibson fastball in a hurry.

Arguably the most productive hitter in MLB history.

Aside from 755 Homeruns and a lifetime batting average of .305:

He is still the MLB career leader in RBIs (2,297), extra-base hits (1,477) and total bases (6,856); played in 25 All-Star Games.

And 3rd all time hits at 3771.

And never had 100 SOs in a season.

RIP to my childhood idol who I was lucky to see play at Fulton County Stadium many times as a child.

755 will never be broken. Amazing ballplayer. I was a kid, and was just a few feet short of catching 709.

I saw it in person.

Crazy night at the old FulCo stadium.

Tired old argument with little merit and Hank had said several times that he didn't use em.

One PED permanently transforms the body over the course of the season while the
other gives you a temporary boost.
