2009 had the number 1 hardest schedule and went 5-7

2010 went 8-4 by beating 4 OOC, Kentucky, ole miss, a 6 win Georgia and 8 win Florida

2011 went 6-6. Beat Kentucky and ole miss

2012 started 7-0 by beating a winless Auburn, Kentucky, a meh Tennessee team, and cupcakes only to lose 5 out the last 6 games.

2013 6-6 best Kentucky Arkansas and ole miss

2014 and 15 he had Dak and went 10-3 and 9-4.

2016 goes 5-7. Beat South Carolina ole miss and upset #7 A&M. His first true big upset

2017 goes 8-4 beat lsu Kentucky Aggie and Arkansas. Almost beat Bama, lost by 3 to ole miss. This was probably his only “overperformed” year.

Point is Mullen beat a lot of bad teams but few good ones. He elevated our program for sure but outside of Daks 2 season he was pretty average

That is a very small minority. I think he is a good coach. I have maintained that we are a better team today than we were in 2019.
And he is still putting the pieces in place for our program to continue to get better.

2021 NC State
2021 A&M (Coaches poll only)

“Leach inherited a much more stable program than Mullen. State was a complete disaster when Mullen arrived.”

This is completely false. Coach Croom had built a very solid foundation with hard work and improving recruiting. He left a very solid program in place for Mullen (plus an excellent recruiting class in 2010).
To Mullen’s credit, he built upon that and made it better. The 2010 team (Croom’s recruits was loaded with NFL talent).

Now to be fair , Mullen left State in very good shape and Moorhead and Leach have benefited from that. I dare say that some of our fans have gotten spoiled after 13 straight bowl games. I grew in the 1960’s/70’s when success was just an occasional thing. I appreciate what we have today.

This year we were predicted to win 6-8 games with an outside shot at 9. We have met expectations. 8-4 against this schedule is a very good season. And with a chance win 9.

2020 lsu was ranked when we beat them
2021 Kentucky
Aggie and Arkansas were ranked when we beat them this year though I wouldn’t really count Aggie at this point.

4 rent a wins a year and he lost a couple of those. He is a brilliant play caller, he was fired because his complete lack of effort on the trail. As soon as he ran out of McElwain talent the dam broke.

The stat doesn't change to who ended up ranked. He's just a troll.

Had MSU not beaten some of these teams, they would be ranked. Which is why the stat is when you played them.

Speaking of Chris Relf, what Dan Mullen did with this guy, not even a QB per se was amazing. Short video to the song Superman

I mean. I’m not saying he should be fired, never have, and I know injuries are unavoidable and they hit us bad this year, but when you step back and realize when healthy we are the 3rd (maybe 4th but I think with a healthy KJ we’re better than lsu) best team in the sec this year, it is really disheartening to see where we finished and so he needs to be held accountable for that.

Chris Relf was AJ Jefferson with even less arm talent, but he still made it work because of the system.
