To understand...in a 12 game season the team needs to lose any number of games, but the total deficit for the season has to be 84 points or more, correct?
I ask because Texas lost 3 games last year by an average of -13.3 pts/gm. Which by the way I read the title qualifies as 2025 for Texas.
BTW, to me te statement below implies a winless season.

If 2020 isn’t fair because it was an all-SEC, 100% “big boy” schedule, then here are the years where your team benefited from playing cupcakes and still achieved this dubious milestone:
Arkansas: 2019
Tennessee: 2017
South Carolina: 1999

No, it’s combined points scored for the season, divided by games played, and then combined points allowed divided by games played
2025 Texas average 30 points a game, while allowing just 20, so their average score was 30-20. Good team
But take a team like 1991 Missouri, who scored an average of 20 points per game but allowed an average of 36, and you have a horrible team

“ big boy” schedule? But teams got to play mizzou

That's what I said... 84/12=7. Or for a 13 game schedule 91/13=7, etc. Deficit/games>=7

I failed to answer your entire question
If a team played 12 games and had a point differential of -84, they’d be on the list
So a 4-8 team that scored 17 points and allowed an average of 24 a game would be here
2025 Texas got blown out but their victories made up for it. This list is for teams whose victories couldn’t make up for their atrocious margins of defeat. These are all losing teams

That 2012 team spit the bit in a way I'd never seen an Auburn team quit.

I do not think many were surprised by the last six..Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas, OU
Tenn was a surprise though for sure.

You have to count total points scored and allowed for all games - wins and losses.
For example Texas’ 2025 team played 13 games. They scored 396 points. They allowed 264 points.
(396-264)/13 = +10.2 average margin
A better way to phrase it would be the average margin over a season. The last time Texas was -7 was in 1997. Texas went 4-7. They scored 283 points. They allowed 366 points.
(283-366)/11 = -7.5 point average margin.
