The courts have taken the NCAA to the woodshed because of anti-trust, but conferences are different.
You have to be under the NCAA umbrella to play football, but a program like LSU could easily become independent or move to a difference conference so anti-trust is harder to pin on conferences.
The legal challenge will probably be the most significant since O'Bannon. If the SEC is allowed to enforce rules than conferences will take over the responsibility from the NCAA. If not it will take an act of Congress to fix college football.
Kiffin is taking the heat here but really the home cooking local judges are the villains.
