He takes whatever it takes to win?

So why did he not do it at Tenn or Southern Cal?

Or for some odd reasons do those not count?

I generally agree with your post, but I think LSU is safe from ever having to worry about another major university considering hiring Lane again. This will be his last job one way or another.

I don't think this part is new at all in any major athletic scenario.

$$$ and egos are as much a part of sport as anything else.

Again, if he were not openly flying his family around to FL and Baton Rouge, not even trying to be somewhat discrete, he may have been able to coach.

Hahaha y’all are something, man.
He sent his ex wife and brother’s family to check the towns and campuses out lmao. On the humanity! And he was as discreet as possible while every media outlet and idiot talking head was reporting on what city the pj was in today. Y’all were so butthurt that he was actually contemplating leaving the oasis in Oxford that no amount of “professionalism” would’ve made ya’ll want him to stay and coach.
This shite is tiring for LSU fans, know it has to be exhausting for y’all.

Serious question though: What could he have possibly done differently? Obviously y’all would say “he could’ve just stayed at Ole Miss” and I get that but 99% of coaches are leaving Ole Miss for a better job at LSU. Sorry but that’s the harsh truth

This is what they can't come to terms with, and it isn't the first time it's happened to them. See Tommy Tuberville. They are a stepping stone program but they don't want to admit it.

Once Texas or Bama open up, you'll see the real Lane....he is a grade A POS

When Lane inevitably leaves LSU one day it won’t be another college job. A return to the NFL possibly, but not a college job. Saban told him LSU is the best job in college football and I think Lane believes it too. Only other personal tie he had was at USC and don’t think that’ll happen again.

that prototype has been around since ball has been played - Lane is just the next - he stands out more in this sorry NIL 'error' due to his poor public speaking skills compared to prior wordsmiths -

If he simply left instead of acting like a giant fig none of this would have happened

How did he act like a giant fig? I've yet to have an Ole Miss fan explain what he should have done that would have made him leaving okay in their eyes.

You and I can agree 100% on this. Personally, I wanted Lane gone after the Auburn fiasco in 2022.
In all honesty, I do not know of any program who would have allowed him to coach, given the circumstances.

That's all fine and well, but Ole Miss fans don't get to then go and bitch and moan about how he "quit" on his team.

Obviously y’all would say “he could’ve just stayed at Ole Miss” and I get that but 99% of coaches are leaving Ole Miss for a better job at LSU. Sorry but that’s the harsh truth. The timing of everything sucked but he had to make a decision, which he did in a somewhat timely fashion. Just wasn’t the decision y’all wanted. Ole Miss fans just constantly moan and groan about how he left, trying to “burn the place down on his way out” when he literally just wanted to finish the job and coach his team (obviously wasn’t ever going to happen).

I don't think it's because he left. He did us a great job, full stop. It would have been nice if it wasn't LSU, just because of the rivalry, but it's more about how he left. Tried to burn it down on the way out, wanting to coach our team while working for another conference program/rival program. I think he's a pretty low empathy guy, so I think he was genuinely baffled about why people were upset.

As far as the latest stuff goes, to Lane it's win-win. If he gets the players, great; his team is better. If he doesn't get them, he's still dominated the news cycle in the sport right as the season starts.

Kiffin's wired differently than most coaches, IMO. Most coaches are insanely competitive and winning is the ultimate end. I don't think that's true for Kiffin. The attention is the end, and the winning is the means to that end. He's driven to win because the winning will bring the attention. He wants to be on the biggest possible stage where the lights are on 24/7. Oxford wasn't that, and that might have been good for a person who hasn't always been discreet in his indiscretions. We'll see if that kind of spotlight works for him.

Will he win a natty at LSU? Maybe. He's good enough, and 2 of the last 3 coaches that won one there weren't exactly rocket scientists. There's something about Kiffin that's self-destructive. The question to me is whether he can win big before that self-destructive streak surfaces.

The problem is, you say it like a badge of honor, which has me immediately wondering about your integrity. "IF that's all that matters," the school's presidents wouldn't have shut it down as quickly as they did.

And how about a shoutout for the repercussions called penalties for wrong-headed thinking. The SEC office may not forget or forgive such behavior. Officiating may change at the most serious point of a game. Yeah, it's a real thing. If LSU starts getting a 9-game SEC schedule from Hades, grip all you want; there's nothing you can do about it. Ask Florida. Teams with Byes can suddenly start popping up before the Tiger game.

Head coaches are always going to need help from the SEC office and, at times, the benefit of the doubt; I don't see Wade or Kiffin throwing themselves at the mercy of that court with any future success.

In short, LSU will yet reap what they sow. And soon.

Would you have rathered he not want to coach the team? You guys don't know which was is up right now. How did he try to "burn it down on the way out"?

Correct. You may not have followed the sport closely, or maybe just look at things a certain way, but the exit was drama filled by Lane. Announce you're leaving, wish us the best, get the coaches you want after the season's wrapped up. We're trying to win playoff games, and he's taking the staff, calling our players trying to get them to quit the team and transfer, working his media contacts at ESPN to twist the narrative, etc.

When Lane leaves, it's a mushroom cloud. You and I both know and understand that. None of this is really a secret. We watched it play out live.

Urban Meyer won 3 national titles

Not like Lane, at all on the field. Urban has beyond proven himself with results. Lane...has not come close to that level of success.

Simply observe how he acted from the Auburn saga in 22 until leaving. He then acted like he was a victim afterwards because he is a coward. None of this is new information.
