Josh Pate said his sources told him that Kirby did not initiate the suit but did "give his approval" when asked by the player & his attys. FWIW.

Where did Pate say that? The only thing I've seen from him was referencing an article by John Talty, former Bama writer who authored "The Leadership Secrets of Nick Saban: How Alabama's Coach Became the Greatest Ever." And Talty didn't quote Smart. He said Smart "gave his blessing", but those were Talty's words, not Kirby's

My bet is that when Rashada was considering a transfer, his team asked if their lawsuit would prevent him from playing at UGA. Kirby said it wouldn't.

If UF thought there was even a one in a million chance of Kirby going totally insane and agreeing to coach the Gators they would crawl across broken glass to make that happen. But that would never happen. Even if Kirby was fitted for a straight jacket he could never stoop that low.

I may in fact be broken, the jury is still out on that, but it has nothing to do with UF.

Everyone is really enjoying seeing how broken Florida is - and has been for years. It’s a real life soap opera down in Hogtown.
From one bad coaching hire to another. From shoes thrown into a foggy night to Darth Vader showing up at a press conference while his wife French kisses his players. You can’t make this stuff up.

Pretty good record vs UF. UF must be the dump.

Really? What happened in 2020?

Covid happened.

UGA's starter in fall camp withdrew due to covid a week or two in. (Jamie Newman). UGA's #2 came into fall camp injured (JT Daniels). That left UGA with Stetson Bennett and Dwan Mathis. Mathis got the starting nod but halfway through his first game it was clear he wasn't very good. So Bennett became the starter until Daniels got healthy.

In the UF game Bennett got hurt and Mathis came in and had to play. UGA was up 14-7 when Bennett went down (UGA later would intercept a pass and return it for a TD). Mathis came in and threw an immediate pick 6. Bennett tried to tough it out through the injury but was not able to play well due to being hurt. UGA had 1 first down in the rest of his series and the defense got very tired in the first half. Finally after starting the second half with an interception Bennett was done and Mathis played the rest of the game.

Depth is a part of football. Injuries happen. UGA would likely have been pretty good with Newman. They were pretty good with Daniels when he got healthy. They were pretty good with a healthy Bennett.

But having to go down the #4 guy against UF... even UGA doesn't have that kind of depth.

On the plus side, the experience Bennett got in 2020 likely helped UGA win titles in 2021 and 2022, so in the grand scheme of things it was probably worth it.

In defense of Mathis. He had to have emergency brain surgery several months before this game. After he returned he was never quite as good as before. It’s a shame as he was really a great player.

Hey all that injury shite seems to anger Georgia fans when another team brings it up. Make up your mind.

Smart only recruited Rashada so Auburn couldnt have him. Rashada won't play a down at UGA. And Billy is going pay the NIL so we get him at a significant discount.

It's genius actually.

You should have depth to cover injuries. But when your down to your 4th line player(s) at a position, you're just fricked.

Sometimes you have bad luck at a position. If someone asks what happened and you tell them that your first string, second string and 3rd string were all unable to play at a key position like QB... that's an explanation as to what happened.

I didn't excuse the loss. UGA had the same issue until late in the year and still won a lot of games. The losses still count. In no way am I saying "UGA would have won if...".

But if someone asks why UGA lost in that season and not in others, I think pointing out that they had their 3rd string QB playing injured most of the first half and their 4th string QB playing the rest of the game is a valid answer to their question.

If he didn't want an answer, he shouldn't have phrased it like a question.

2020 was fricked up for many teams by covid. Illnesses. Opt outs. Cancelled games. No OOC. It's an anomaly of a year.

I feel sorry for Rashada. He was promised a fortune to flip from Miami. He did and then the Gators said “ too bad. We ain’t paying”. Who wouldn’t take 13 mil - even to go to UF - if it was offered.
He won’t get 13 mil at UGA but he will be well compensated and Georgia’s collectives will actually pay. Not like UFs.
